OT: Spiders Are Worse than Crabs Club...

well, for those of you who have been wondering where I've ran away to, it's the hospital

Monday and Tuesday, I wend camping in the Indiana Dunes, and awoke Tuesday morning with a bite on my arm. I didn't think much of it, as I usually don't, and carried on with my day. Well, by Wednesday afternoon, the area around the bite was spreading as a red rash, and a line of the "red rash" was running up my arm parallel to my veins. Still thought, okay I'll be alright this is sort of weird though.. Thursday the "line" has made it inches from my shoulder... (bit was originally on my forearm.) At this point I'm getting a bit worried and everyone keeps telling me to go to the hospital. I, like the dummy I am, decide to wait it out another day. Of course, it didn't get any worse, and so now I decide to visit the hospital. After waiting five hours in the waiting room, I learn that what I thought was just a "simple bug bite" could be life threatening based on how far the venom had progressed in my system. Being in the hospital is for an extended period of time is not my idea of a good time, blood tests, IV bags, my own bed, all the good stuff

Now I'm on anti-biotics to make sure everything is clear and I should be alright; needless to say, it was a long and scary experience that I never want to repeat... and just a word of warning, it doesn't have to be a black widow or a brown recluse that bites you... if your body has a reaction to any spider venom, and it enters the blood stream, you could be in BIG trouble.

this is good advice. I had a similar incident a few years ago. Aparently having been bit by a spider on my leg. The area became very red and tender, eventualy turning into a form of dermititis that required a strong course of antibiotics. Odly enough, that area of my leg is still discoulored to this day

Well when you hang out on the boards and someone doesn't post or say they are going somewhere you know it when they are MIA.

You get better real fast and don't be wrestling with those spiders anymore, they carry a pretty mean punch.

The spider must have been fairly large, because the distance from outside edge to outside edge of the holes from the fangs is almost a quarter inch!

I'm happy to be back! hah I know, i was actually thinking about RS for a while in the hospital when I realized that wouldn't be around for a while, heh, man, I must really be an RS dork now... Wow, sounds like a big bug! Add a fear of Cleaner Shrimp to the fear of spiders and what do you get....my girl friend (-; I guess my cleaners reminder her of spiders and I think they sensed she didnt like them. One day while sitting in front of the tank with her head turned the shrimp shot right at her to the glass and scared the C**p out of her....I had a wicked laugh.

Glad you're ok...a few beer ont hose anti-biotics and you're all set!

I bet next time you go see a doctor sooner especially now that you have had this reaction. I could be worse if you get bitten again.

Nope, unfortunately i wasn't able to find out! the little sucker got me while I was sleeping, and i never got to see him! I wish i would have.. he'd have been paste....
