Talking OT: Yay a new car!!!

I have been saving up for a while, and have found the car I want. My parents have always driven BMWs. Well, Ive been looking at the 328i coupe. I have finally found a 2007 coupe that has all the options I want. Im working with the salesmen on getting it to Charlotte, its still at sea. Im super excited, I should have my 2007 black on black 328i coupe by the end of the month. I hope everything goes smoothly.
Anyone else here BMW fans?

That's a good car Mike! It'll last longer and require less maintenance and upkeep costs.

Re: OT: Yay a new car!!!

Ya, it is my first new car, bought it last year with 24 miles on it. I was in the market for a used car, but I got a great deal, and I figure it should last me a good 125k at least. The last Honda I had I bought with 100k on it and it lasted another 65k before the engine went on it.
That being said, if I could afford it, I'd probably have a Bimmer. Probably an M3. Although my buddies dad had an 05 M5 and that thing was awesome. Although I could have almost purchased a house for what he paid. I think it was right around 100k or a little more after tags and luxury taxes and such.

Re: OT: Yay a new car!!!

Oh, ya. Congrats I forgot to say it in my first post
BTW, I have noticed that BMW seems to be a very popular car in Charlotte. I always feel like I'm surrounded by them on my way to work when I'm stuck on I-77 in the morning. Definitely seems to outnumber the Mercedes here.

Re: OT: Yay a new car!!!

Having driven Bimmers for most of the past 35 years, I certainly won't try to talk you out of one...I am wondering about one thing however...you say it's still out to sea...are they bringing in gray-market cars and selling them? Hopefully, they are doing the full DOT conversion before they get sold. (gray market cars don't meet US standards for lighting and a few other areas, and have to be converted) Also, AFAIK, there's no Carfax available for cars coming in from overseas, so how do you know the history of the car...I'd be careful...VERY careful before buying a used car shipped from overseas...

My uncle sold mercedes for a long time, if you order one (instead of buying off the lot) they ship it. That way you can get exactly what you want instead of picking from what they have. Hubby got one that way, a 2-door with a full-roof moonroof. Had to trade it in when we had our rug rat.

Re: OT: Yay a new car!!!

When I say out at sea I mean, that it is in transit to the USA. It is already purchased by another dealership. My local dealership was supposed to do atrade for it. But now I am having to wait until they start production again, in late july. I guess thats ok though, gives me a little more time to save up. Boy I am so anxious.

Re: OT: Yay a new car!!!

OK, all that makes more sense...I fully understand that Bimmers and Benzes are German made and imported...my misunderstanding was that he was buying a used car being imported...not one built for the US market...
Enjoy. Personally, I don't care for the Chris Bangle body styles nearly as much as I did earlier models, but they still are hella nice cars.
I remember all the hoopla when the I-Drive first came out in the redesigned 745i's...I was at the dealer picking up some parts, and spent some time looking over the car...the salesman was going over some of the features of the I-Drive system, and....you guessed it, just like any Microsoft system...it crashed...the car had to be turned off and "rebooted"...(sound familiar?) Fortunately, they seem to have fixed the issues that are common with most first year productions...and it's much more reliable nowadays.
Enjoy!
