OT... OH my gosh Im moving.

Oh man... I know this may sound stupid but I have snakes all over in my yard... lol I have a huge phobia. I have no idea what kind they are but I am deathly afraid of them... I cant even look at them without freaking out... I am gonna have nightmares... How do I get rid of these nasty things?

I saw some last fall in my driveway. I had to call my brother to come get them. I was afraid of my flower gardens the rest of the fall. I was afraid to walk through the grass... YUCK.... Now I looked out my bedroom window and there is a darn snake skin... Oh my gosh....

Who else here hates snakes?

Re: OT... OH my gosh Im moving.

I don't hate them but they do give me the creeps.

What type of snakes do you have there?

Yesterday, I found a large (4') black snake in a bird house in my back yard. I got my son to prod it away into the neighbor's yard. LOL~ I don't kill black snakes because they are helpful in eating rodents and keeping other more dangerous snakes away.

Re: OT... OH my gosh Im moving.

Woody-I sure do miss it over there with all the harmless garder snakes and black snakes. Lord only knows what kinds of snakes they have out here in the desert!!! I try not to think about it!

Blue_eyes-I am not TERRIFFIED of snakes, but would seriously freak if there was one close to me. I think spiders are my worst enemy!!! Ew... What do they look like?

I dont know what they are... They are tan with red stripes to make diamond marks... I hate them all... I cant even walk by them in a pet store... I have lived in town all my life.. I built a house ONE block out of town (im considerered living in the country now) and I have snakes.... The one my brother took away last fall was about 4 feet long. Re: OT... OH my gosh Im moving.

At lowes or Home Depot here there is a snake repellent. looks like fertilizer and smells a bit like moth balls. I just put it around my Yard. I am not sure if it works but I have not had a snake in my yard.

Re: OT... OH my gosh Im moving.

I was the stupid kid that was always playing with snakes when we lived on the coast in VA. We used to find garter snakes, brown water snakes, cottonmouths, hognoses and the occasional pine snake.
When we moved farther south I enjoyed it even more because I could find snakes that we could actually keep like corn snakes and racers.
I don't keep or breed them anymore, but I love finding them. Just keep in mind they do hang out where they know they can find food. It sounds like a corn snake from your description, and they typically it mice and other small furry rodents, although they can catch small birds. The baby corns typically eat the anole lizards until they get bigger.

Does that look like it?

Re: OT... OH my gosh Im moving.

mps, It is hard to tell from the picture... Are corn snakes striped or do they have red circles? The picture looks similiar but kinda hard to tell..

The snakes I have and dont want, lol have very distinct bold red lines.that make a diamond on the back, I will do some searching and see if I can find a picture. I would take a picture of one in my yard but I am usually running away.

I do have fields around my house and across the street I have a spring that runs through Our subdivision. Last year we had toads in our yard all the time. I think the snakes may be looking for the toads..
