Thanks everyone. That kid is impossibly lucky. It could have been much worse. He remembers narrowly missing a telephone pole. It was a scary thing seeing him laying in that hospital bed. He had to go out thru the windshield because none of the four doors would open and he walked two miles to a phone with a heavily bleeding leg. Yeah I hope he learned his lesson. Now we are just waiting for him to get better.

I learned my lesson at 19.. driving recklessly in my brand new mustang...lost control, clipped the concrete divider, spun around and off the highway...hitting a large tree so hard that the car was totalled. I was pulled out of the car thru the sun roof. They say it was a miracle that I had not a single scratch on me...but my chest was unbelievably sore from the seat belt.

I think of both of you, and sympathize, what an awfull feeling to be a parent sitting next to your ailing child and feeling so helpless. Karma to both of you for your strength !

Glad he is OK Danny and Rhonda. I will share my little experience with you as well. When I was 16... couldn't have been driving but a few months... My boyfriend and I left Burger King. I was not someone who had ever really worn seatbelts... wasn't a law then... Anyway, for some reason, when we pulled out of the parking lot... I buckled up. Less than 3/4 mile later a car crossed a divider and hit us head on. Needless to say... I have buckled up since. Amazingly, we both walked away with very minor injuries... bruised sternum (from the seatbelt) and some muscle issues. Heck of a lot better than a cut up face in my book!
Good luck to your son and I am hoping for a super speedy recovery!

I am so glad he is ok.... My son will be driving in about 1 1/2 years or less (they start them so young now a days). I am so nervous about it already.

Our boy is home!!! Bruised and cut up but mostly fine. Thank you everyone for your well wishes. I had an experience similar myself but I don't think I'll be telling him about it soon. I'm thinking of waiting til his children have children or maybe one more generation after that til I tell him

We don't think so. He was the only one hurt in the car. and no other cars were involved.
