OT: Back to College!

Well, after almost 5 years out of college, I'm finally starting back up. It's going to be a bit different this time, though. I have to buy all the books/coursework, study while I'm out to see, and then take a test as soon as we're back on dry land. The Navy is covering 100% of my tuition (thank God!), but books looked daunting.
Just one Psychology book was $126 from the PACE program!!! Looked on directtextbook.com and it was only $37 after shipping for a new one of the same edition! HOO freaking RAH!!!
If anyone, and I do mean ANYONE, is taking college courses, check out this website!!! Every course I've looked into I can get the books for at least 40% less on this website! Where was this 5 years ago?!

Re: OT: Back to College!

I genuinely admire anyone who choses to go back to school. It is a daunting process and takes plenty of courage and determination. My wife went back to school, and graduated as an RN.
I also remember the worst part being the cost of her textbooks

Re: OT: Back to College!

Good luck at ya!

I too went back to skool in January for the first time in almost 40 years...made me pretty nervous at first, but so far, it's been pretty...tough! Only one class has actually been difficult for me...(psychology) probably because I have a lot of skepticism about the subject matter...but I STILL managed to pull an A for the semester.
Just remember, not only are you probably SMARTER than most of those kids going to school, you're probably better MOTIVATED than most of them too...it has surprised lots of them that I'm pulling almost straight "A"s...and I'm an OLD fart...

Go give then h*ll, and show em what you're made of!

Have fun. I have two friends that just got into grad school after graduating in 02 and 03 with degrees in Bio and Environmental Sciences. Once I get my college loans paid off I'm thinking I may head back to pursue a graduate degree if anyone will let me in.
Good luck. I remember most of the military guys that were in the same classes as I was in did awesome. Much more self motivated and on the ball than most of the slackers in the classes. I'm sure you will do great.

Re: OT: Back to College!

What I always found hilarious is how the previous edition would plummet in price after the newest edition came out. My professors told us that most of the time the old edition would work fine, except for a few cases when the books were totally overhauled. You could find an old edition for under 10 bucks while the newest one would be well over $100.

Yeah, back when I was a "traditional student" for that year and a half pre-military, I always did the student consignment for used, old editions. The only ones that I ever got in trouble with were the math books, since the questions at the end of the chapters were completely different!
