The real cost of Bling-Bling

I have been trying to raise people's awareness of the horrors of the jewelry industry for some time now. Whether it be gold, silver, or precious stones, the mining and making of jewelry is one of the most destuctive practices out there. Not only is it usually extremely bad for the local environment, it can be quite hard on the people involved. In fact, laying the environmental issues aside, the suffering of Third world people at the hands of various mining and jewelry companies is staggering, hellish even.

I encourage all who read this to do some research, and discover for themselves what an abomination the bling-bling industry really is.

Mining has been going on forever in various forms, the worst by far is yet to come, soon a process for gold removal from sea water will be found then we will really see some climate change

Of course, this is an older event. The free world has made attempts to only buy cruelty free diamonds since learning of the horrors in Africa. Sadly, though Al-Queda has no problem buying those diamonds. It is estimated that the have laundered hundreds of millions of dollars by buying Africa's blood diamonds. It has provided them with an easy way to get around freezes on their assests since 9/11.

Well this is good info your providing here reefjitsu. I think it would be better off in another forum though. This is a family based forum and id hate for my 8 year old to stumble onto this thread and see people being shot with automatic wepons.
