Getting Married Soon.

Well, I know I haven't been on much this past week but my thoughts have not been about reefing much since this past Monday.
Some of you may know and others don't but, my father has been batteling prostate cancer now for the last 2 1/2 years. He began Chemo this past January. It helped him to have a pretty good summer.
The chemo has stopped working and now his PSA in continuing to rise and his WBC and RBCs are dropping along with his weight.
They told him this past sunday that there was nothing more that could be done and have told him he probably has 6 months to live.

Mark and I were going to be planning a wedding just as soon as we finished the work on his house and got it sold but, I got the idea on Tuesday that maybe we could try and plan a smaller wedding when we went to Indiana for the Christmas holidays. I ran the idea by him and he thinks it's a good idea also since I really want my father to be at my wedding and give me away.

Our wedding will be combined with our Christmas party since my whole family will be there anyway. We plan on inviting his 2 brothers who live here in Maryland and his other brother who lives in Columbus Ohio along with his father who lives in Florida. I hope they will be able to make it.

Our wedding date is set for December 30th.

I've been very busy searching on-line for ideas on Christmas Weddings and DIY decorations since we don't have alot of money to spare because of supporting 2 homes.

Just thought some of you might have been wondering why I haven't been posting much, I just have alot on my mind with the news of my father and now trying to plan a wedding 600 miles away.

I never knew about your dad, I'm so sorry to hear the news....I can understand wanting to get married in time for your dad to see you walk down the isle.
December weddings are beautiful, and I'm sure yours will be an event to remember!

Re: Getting Married Soon.

Gina, I am very sorry to hear about your father and very happy that you and Mark are planning a day for all to remember. If you have any ideas at this time for color and scheme, I know that I wouldn't mind helping you do some of the computer searching for X-mas wedding ideas. Please know that I will keep you and your dad in my prayers.

Gina - condolances and best wishes! I'm sure your wedding will be beautiful.

This may sound cheesy but they really are pretty, cutout snowflakes on posterboard and spray with "fake snow" and sprinkle with glitter, you can use thread to string them from the ceiling.

Re: Getting Married Soon.

Gina ,I am so sorry to hear about your dad,, this must be a very hard time for you... My dad passed away from cancer when I was in high school.. It was quite a few years ago and I still remember it as if it was yesterday.. It is never easy seeing your loved ones go through an illness.. I wish your family the best and I hope your wedding will be the best day ever.... Congrats..

Not cheesy at all. I may go to a craft store and see what I can find.
I'm thinking where Mark and I will stand, we would have a Christmas Tree on each side and if I can find an arch, that would be in the middle.
I'm thinking of having pictures of our Mothers blown up and candles next to each picture since both our mothers have passed and right before our vows we could light the candles and ring a bell.

The colors will be traditional christmas colors.
I plan on going to some of the stores around here and seeing if I can find easy to make ( I'm not that crafty) centerpieces of evergreen, candles and christmas bulbs. If I can't find something easy to do, I may just see what a florist charges.

We plan on making our own wedding invitations. Mark has a laser printer.
Just need to find something I like.

The other thing I've been searching for are christmas wedding favors.
Seems that everything I like is kinda pricey but, I've gotten a few ideas just need to get out and hope some of the stores have their christmas stuff out now!

I have a beautiful wedding dress that my aunt gave me but, I'm thinking of wearing something a little less fancy now and probably one of the christmas colors. Believe it or not, I have found wedding gowns in both red and green.
Not sure what I'm going to do with that yet.
Lots on my mind and only 2 months to get it done.

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone. I've always been my father's baby girl and he has been there for me through everything. This is a hard time for me right now and all my thoughts are of him right now.

I have chosen the song for the Father/Daughter dance and it's by Heartland and called "I loved her first".

Re: Getting Married Soon.

At least around here the Christmas stuff seems to come out Nov 1, but craft stores often have it earlier to give people a chance to do the work. Check some of the on-line places as well. The prices are often better. If you are looking to do anything with beads check out a company called fire mountain gems and beads. They have great prices and customer service and a huge selection on-line. Also I learned a while ago how to make the Christmas bulbs with the swirled paint inside and it is really easy, fun, and cheap if you want to add some like that to your decorations. Just let me know and I can send you details on how etc.
Also I am a Christmas decoration freak so if there is anything you may want to borrow, let me know and I will loan you anything in my collection. My husband would be glad to get it out of here even if only for a bit. Lots of snowmen, lights, etc. I'm not sure what you may want for a wedding but if I have it you are welcome to it.
In fact I have a gorgeous dress (though not floor length more of a cocktail dress kind of) that is Christmas green lace that would probably fit you if that sounds good to you. I can take a pic of it and send if you are at all interrested. It is one of my favorite holiday dressy outfits but doesn't fit me now and even if it did I would loan it gladly. I have a few friends in Indy as well who may be able to help with local stuff there. I would be happy to call them and see if I any are married to a photographer or florist or whatever you find you need that is best done locally. They are work friends but you never know who has connections where and calling our Indy office would be easy to do.
