OT... Parenting help,,, would you call..

Ok this has nothing to do with reefing but just general everyday parenting/kids help... blah blah... lol

Ok a question for everyone out there that cares to add there input..


IF your child had money stolen from them.. right out of there room... only one other person( the accused) was in the room.... You catch the kid with your childs $ in his hand and gonna leave... But later notice some is still missing(must of already got it in the pocket). Do you call the parents?

Well I want to add to , that you knwo the kids parents and talk to them on a regular basis,,, would you confront the parents? Or how would you handle it?

However (in a simular situation) I would explain to my child that his/her friend is not allowed in my home any longer and if I knew the parents well I would talk to them and let them know what I had discovered.

if it was just a few dollars I wouldn't do anything...not worth rocking the friendship over it.
If it were a favorite toy or a large sum of money(I personally wouldn't keep it within childs reach) ..then I would tell the parents..something like ''I believe your child may havemistakenly taken....) that way it sounds less accusatory and opens the conversation for discussion.

Yes, I would call or talk to in person, the parents of the child that stole the money. Two reasons why I would.. 1- It is important for children (and adults ) to learn that there are consequences to their actions; 2- as a parent, I would certainly want to know if my child was acting inappropriately.

The age of the child would determine if I would 'ban' him/her from my home. A younger child (4 yrs) would receive more understanding than a teenager that definately knows better.

I would tell the parent in person and depending on the response, would ask to have a sit-down talk with all persons involved (you, parent, 13yr old, and victim). I would discuss the situation with everyone present explaining that if it happens again, the 13yr old will not be allowed in the house.

............... then knowing myself, later I would test the child with money placed in the house to test the child's newfound honesty...

Let me tell you a little story. My son had a friend that used to come over quite frequently. One day we discovered several things missing and the friend was the only one that had been in the home besides us. I spoke to his parents about my concern then next time I saw them. After another incident with this young man in my home I decided that was it and that he was not allowed in any longer. 1 short year later this young man ended up in jail for breaking into someone else's home and destroying it with some of his friends. It was also discovered that this individual was responsible for bike thefts, car break ins and other acts of neighborhood destruction.

Just a past experiance.

Well to add to the story.. it is like warnbergs story... The same boy was here last year at this time and I kept missing items as well.... Lol I tested him by putting things that would interest a young boy.. At the time it was food he was taking... Mind you I do daycare and have snacks in baskets on the counter... I opened a pack of cookies and left the room (lol) he shoved about 15 cookies in his back pack... I did confront him at the time told him all he has to do is ask or heck i dont even care if he pulls up a chair and has a snack...Dont hide it.. well he got all teary eyed( and I felt terrible for days)
He didnt come over for a year now... he just started coming over again and then steals money.. I think money is way different than food - no stealing is right...
