Re: OT... Parenting help,,, would you call..

My son was 8 when I got a call from a mom. She was checking up on a story her son told her, and shared with me that they were having troubles with honesty and theft in their home. When my son found out his friend tried to implicate him, he distanced himself.

Now the boys are 16, and I ran into the mom recently. This same young man has been in two juvenile detention centers already, and they very unsure of his future.

Nothing beats being actively involved - and Blue eyes..regardless of the outcome, you were honest with the parents. What they chose to do with that information is up to them. And your child saw good examples of meeting confrontation head on with a calm approach.

Children learn more from what we do than what we tell them to do.

Best of Luck,
Susan

I am a Behavior Analyst by trade (work with K-12 in psycho-ed). Vicki, I think you are correct in your thinking. The fact that the parents are in denial may say something about why the child is the way he is.

No, my son actually has a lock safe.. it has a digital code # lock thing on it.. The other kid loved to try to guess the combination and my gullible son told him the combo and forgot to change it.... the kid came back the next day and took the $.... So my son learned another valuable lesson.. Never trust anyone.

Lucky for the prison system and me, no kids. However that thing about a mother bear and her cubs is coming to mind, and never cornering a wild animal, Kudos to you for doing the proper thing, hopefully you sons lesson will pay off big later in life
