| Manta Ray | Re: OT~Good Morning Thread (reborn) Maybe. This is my second one. Learned a lot from the first one. I have 2 boys and they act like it. The youngest is at the age where he is learning how to test limits. So I have hitting, kicking, throwing toys, breaking things, trashing the area he is at, slamming toys into his brother's face...the last of which earned him a swat on the butt. This just started within the last week. I am handling the same way I learned to handle it with the oldest when he was that little. The kid goes in the crib and he does not come out until it stops. I won't be an audience to it because that just makes it go on longer. He's been getting ticked this morning. Nothing I can't handle yet....yet. Back to coffee. |

| Tiger Shark | Re: OT~Good Morning Thread (reborn) nothing wrong with swats in my book if everyone did that then the little hoodlums we have today wouldnt exist. Disipline is a good thing no matter how it is instilled. Just an older Marine that believe disipline is the keep to success

There is a whole new parenting psychology out there and too many kids taking advantage of it. Kids are in charge. But so far, not in my house. I've seen how this plays out as kids get older. Seems more user friendly for me to swat my kids when it gets tough than the alternatives: The I can do what I want and you can't touch me can end in the butthead in the clink or the smart mouth running to the point they end up getting their @sses beat in the parking lot by someone much bigger who isn't going to tolerate that kind of crap. | |

| Reef Lobster | Re: OT~Good Morning Thread (reborn) I got my rear tore up quite a few times growing up. I wasn't mischievous, just made some stupid choices. I turned out fine too. Nothing wrong with a little wake up call to sharpen the senses and teach us what is wrong! On the other hand, praise and reward are a good way to curb the mischievous by giving them the opportunity to earn what the want by doing good. A child can go through life literally not knowing what is wrong and what is right. It is our job to teach them this, even though society thinks otherwise. The government has been in my business way too long! I can see a day when Americans will get sick and tired of the way the government has come in to control their homes and lives. I feel like I am an enemy of the state over the treatment I have received. They need to butt out! |

| Regular Guy Moderator ![]() | Re: OT~Good Morning Thread (reborn) You have to discipline kids so they understand boundaries, consequeces and respect for others. You must be consistent so the boundary lines are not blurry. And you must love them more than you discipline them. Kids spell love T I M E and is the basis of a quality relationship. Rules without relationships lead to rebellion. Me and my three brothers got the paddle regularly. Once, after I changed my 4th grade report card citizenship grade from an F to an A, my dad hit me so hard the paddle broke. No serial killers among me and my brethren and were very close to my dad, I speak to him weekly (mom too).

| Reef Lobster | Re: OT~Good Morning Thread (reborn) Good Afternoon all...no I wasn't arrested or anything..spent the night/morning with Mom and Dad trying to regulate....had my coffee too. I totally agree with Jack (BTW I never knew Semper Fidelis Jack) I'm sure some of you read my horrid life story but you know what as you all know I'm no saint but I'm not a malicious ax manic either. My sister on the other hand was rarely spanked (leather belt or hand) and she's a T E R R O R...and she's 4 years older than me. BTW Becky I don't think I said this in the other thread but your neighbors freak ME out.

| Manta Ray | Re: OT~Good Morning Thread (reborn) My neighbors freak you out, Mucci? Today is a new day. Blinds are shut...house is on lockdown. I was quick about taking out the trash. I don't think I will be out in that neck of the yard for my nosy peeping neighbor...Cletus and Ellie Mae might be a different story. |

| Social Darwinism victim | Re: OT~Good Morning Thread (reborn) Mine was up early too... and she gets spanked and put on time out depending what the offense was. Also depends what will make more of an impact right then. She HATES when I threaten to spank her in public. We've entered the embarrassment stage. Great tool. And yes, I will spank her in public. If anyone ever said anything to me I would spank them too. Lately though she's been a gem. Thoughtful, says sorry mommy when she does her "dumb" stuff (she can be kinda a klutz -- dishes, food spilling, etc. no punishment for that but she does have to clean it up). She does get the step for attitude. And I don't use derogatory words -- she's being bad, she's not a bad kid. I've trained Mike about specific wordage too.
