I have gotten a lot of good infornation from this site and I thank everybody for that. One thing I have wondered were did it come from, Who started the site and how did the staff become involved? How long ago was it started? Just wondering.

Hi Chris,

ReefSanctuary turned two years old last November. The founders were Teri, AKA ReefLady, and myself. We were both moderators of another reef forum, one that had become neglected by its owner. He decided to sell the site and all the members raised money for Teri to become the new owner. At the last minute, he broke the agreement with the members and sold it to a higher bidder.

Much drama ensued, (much….) and the members encouraged Teri to start her own site. They funded the startup for this site through their generous donations and are now all contributing members.

Teri was unsure about taking on such a task on her own, so she and I decided to start the new site together, and Teri named it ReefSanctuary.

Sadly, Teri had to focus on other priorities and wasn’t able to continue on, so she handed me the full ownership of the site in November of 2004.

Last year, needing some help with running things, I brought Witfull on as an administrator. His contribution can be seen pretty much everywhere you look.

The staff here are composed of volunteers who have proven themselves to be helpful, friendly, and take an interest in making ReefSanctuary the best, and most welcoming, reef aquarium forum in existence.

So, in essence, though I am at the helm, this site is the product of many people, from those who donated to get us started, to those mods who donate their time to keep it running, and the more than 3,000 members who come here to share in their hobby together.

Thank you, I was wondering were it came from, This is the first site that I have been to that is trully flame-free and a friendly place to be. It seems like dedicated people working for the benifit of this great hoby. I really enjoy my time here, and I have learnd alot from the people here.

Thanks. Then we've all accomplished what we wanted. A friendly site, where no question was too stupid to ask, where no matter how new a person is, his/her questions would be answered in as accurate and friendly manner as possible. Where all reefers can feel at home. A true Sanctuary...

seriously, i remember being a lurker on BBS' and at the time learned alot, but mostly i saw the cliques and flaming that become associated with it. (been internetting since 94). i then took a hiatus from all fish. no tanks for 4 yrs or so. then i got that dreaded itch again. i stumbled onto a group of people. smart, caring and friendly. i once again played the lurker, but one day i joined up and was welcomed by this iconic abnormality of nice people. i threw my money into the hat during the "issue" and was at the birth of RS. i was a member of RS and happy to do my thing. well somehow i was chosen to be a mod when the site started to grow, ( found out i had a cheerleader- RS search function works ) i was estactic,,,yet humbled. then travis zapped me with the wand and here i am. but you know what,,,,i see myself as a member first. i came form where everyone else started. my "title" may be fancy,,,never know,,,next name tag could be yours

so, basically what im saying is we all make RS what it is....and you know what? i like what we have become so far. the future is so bright i gotta wear shades~

This is the exact reason why I'm here too. After all the 'drama' from the
other sites, its nice to belong to a peicefull, friendly, helpful site!

Thanks all for the great site... I wanted to mention that I really miss Teri/ reeflady.... When I first started the hobby she was of great help to me.. Everybody here is too. I didnt get online as much as I wanted to for about the last year or so since all my moving around and opening a business. When I came back she was gone. She probably doesnt remember me but I appreciated all her help. Anybody know if she is ever online anymore or comes back to the site.? Vicki

Teri and I touch base every few months or so, for one reason or another. It's usually a rather short exchange and I always tell her how much she's missed.

Last contact I had with her, sounded like things were going well. Hopefully some day we'll see her scary eyeball avatar here once again.
