The new light I'm getting doesn't have actinics, just MH 14K and 16 blue and white lunars. But I get the gist of it thanks.

My moon lights are set on a true cycle so the cycle changes 50 minutes per day as the actural moon does. how many have looked up in the noon day sky and seen the moon. anyways i support the theory of dawn/dusk times and use it myself with atinics. albeit more for me than the habitants i like it better than scheduling my photoperiod around natural dusk and dawn from a window ect. My firm belief though is what ever floats your boat. if it works for you do it your way, the animals will let you know if the lighting regime is not to their liking. just my two cents.

ok i wasn't in on the beginning of this discussion and nobody probably reads it anymore... BUT!!! heres my .02

actinics are added to give a different wavelength and heat range of light, the sun provides light from one extreme of the spectral scale (including X-ray, infrared, and ultraviolet) actinics are designed to reproduce the wavelength of the sun at a specific depth (give or take) which would aid corals that live in the deeper ranges of the ocean. i also think that the fish benefit from not having lights turned on instantly seeing as i personally hate it when the lights come on instantly (trust me i go to college i know all about that)

as for moonlights, i leave mine on constantly to help provide any beneficial light they may provide during the day.
