Very cool fish bowl! Must be a pita to keep clean though. I would love to see the Elos tank. Start a thread. And welcome to RS!

Re: Natural Sunlight tanks

I own 4 units..all 4 have had to be returned,2 twice..and I've had to replace LED strips in every unit!!!!!!!!..today I still have issues with all 4, and instead of sendding me any more replacement units..they send me one USED 48" unit and told me to "canibilize parts" to keep my four units going, does this sound like good costomer service???
And NO I love MH and Flourecent fixtures!!!!!!!!!!!(don't like paying for electricity) but I love how they grow coral.

Re: Natural Sunlight tanks

wow, sorry to hear about your experience with the solaris fixtures... at one point I was seriously considering them but I eventually felt that the finish looked rather cheap considering the price paid and decided to go with PlanetII's for the fixtures

Do you have a pic of the insides of the bottom? I'd love to see how that baby works. The lightning effects sound incredible.

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Natural Sunlight tanks

I love the bowl tank that is just off the hook .
And the fact that you are lighting it with a solar tube is even better .
Looks like the light reaches through that big tank just fine .
Now I am really leaning towards natural lighting over my reef .
I think when the full moon is out the tank looks pretty rad as well :-)
Glad that I finally found a person that has a tank lit this way .

Everyones main concern was algae , Do you have a serious problem with algae in your bowl tank ? It looks crystal clear to me .
Also , What kind of lens did you use on the end above the tank ? You mention it was a special lens . Also how long did it take you to figure out the distance above the tank to place the lens ? Did you start out long and cut off till you had the light the way you liked it ?

I like the fact that you have your house plants under it as well absorbing up the extra light that passes by . TOOOOO COOOOOOOOL :-D The plants all seem to be very happy there under the ocean .lol
