Re: Natural Sunlight tanks

Velux makes a VERY nice Solar Tube. They are a quality product and the name Velux carries a lot of Industry Weight!!

Re: Natural Sunlight tanks

Opsanus , so do you like the solar tube over your tank ? Do you have any problems with algae and such ? Really interested in this adventure and if I can learn the do's and dont's before trying that would be awsome :-)

Re: Natural Sunlight tanks

My pleasure DBC. I try to help when I can.

I'm in the "Construction Industry" and yeah I've seen several. That's actually my "Brand of Choice" for such items. I've never seen one used to a TANK though but have thought about it on several occasions. Just not sure that I'm willing to get into the "logistics" of light control. Maybe when I get my next power bill I'll change my mind

Re: Natural Sunlight tanks

Only problem I have with the Elos is MY decision to light it with TWO 48" Solaris units=CRAP(THEESE LIGHTS ARE GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
BUY A SKY LIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!save ,money time and have a changing light sepectrum/regime every day just like in the wild.
When we get a good lightening storm it is soooo cool to see the bowl and all of it's inhabitants light up momentarily, then I look over at my Elos with thoses stupid peices of junk over it and just want to kick my self.
Did I mention the skylight was under 500$.

Re: Natural Sunlight tanks

Wow, the first "real" Solaris bashing I have heard. Do you just hate artificial lighting in general now or something about the Solaris got you down?

Not sure how sky light lighting would work in MN. Pretty gray here in the winter.
