| Midas Blenny | Reducing Waterfall Noise Okay, I just got my new Sunpod light fixture and have gone topless on my BC29 but the waterfall noise of the water spilling over from chamber 1 into chamber 2 is quite loud...there has to be a mod to reduce that noise right? I was thinking of maybe attaching that piece of sponge I took out of my 3rd chamber to the wall between chambers 1 and 2 so the water would splash into that and drain into the 2nd chamber but I removed that sponge originally because I thought it would be a nitrate trap and am hesitant to use it for the noise reduction for that reason. Any thoughts?

| Beautiful Katamari | Re: Reducing Waterfall Noise Add more water to your system. Then the water will not be falling as far nor as loudly. Personally I enjoy the sound of the water cascading. You could use the sponge but you need to be diligent in cleaning it once - if not twice- every week.

| Midas Blenny | Re: Reducing Waterfall Noise I have my Tunze 9002 skimmer in my 2nd chamber so I have to keep my water level fairly precise. No freakin' way to the parrot idea, my Mother has one and that damn thing is so noisy!!!

| Beautiful Katamari | Re: Reducing Waterfall Noise Quote:
Either way you can raise the skimmer the same amount that you raise the water level. I was checking out the 9002(I have the 9005) on the tunze site and the bracket is adjustable so you could raise the skimmer up. If you are not using the bracket you just need to find something to raise the skimmer off the bottom.

| Midas Blenny | Re: Reducing Waterfall Noise I am using the bracket, thought I had it on the highest setting but I'll double-check tonight.

| Golden Moray | Re: Reducing Waterfall Noise Well then, know this, nano keepers regret them. I regret not saving up for a bigger tank. And yall don't have any right to offended by that statement as you will too sooner or later. Although a nano tank is better than no tank ( why I have my loved friggen 10g ), great hobby this is.

| Limpet | Re: Reducing Waterfall Noise Pull the bioballs out of chamber 2 if you haven't already. They're the only reason that Oceanic had for having that big drop between chambers 1 and 2. Replace them with rubble rock leaving the filter plate in place. You can do the same in chamber 1 if you'd like (I did). Get rid of the sponge filter and use some filter floss (I use polyester fiberfill from the fabric store - it's just as effective and a lot cheaper) just under the filter plate in chamber 2 (be sure to change it out every few days to keep it from going biological on you). Add more water so there's hardly any drop between chamber 1 and 2. You'll notice that chamber 3 will be running well above the "max" line (pretty much to the level of the filter plate in chamber 2 actually) but that's OK. That's how mine is configured and it's pretty much silent (except for those noisy fans which I'm replacing with SilenX fans next week!). |
