| Tubeworm | Amount of live sand I recently set up a 24 gal aquapod. I put 30 pounds of live rock and 40 pounds of live sand. It is about 3.5 to 4 inches thick of sand is this too much. Will it cause problems? I took out the bio balls and ceramics. I did add charcoal. Should I remove the sponge also? |

| Excellent Guesser :D | Re: Amount of live sand There are so many opinions on the subject of sand. It is a nice deep sandbed. If you have black spots appear on the sides then be worried. This could be a sign of a sulphur cycle starting. Its a sign of a stagnant sandbed. Some sand sifting animals can help you out on this. It won't happen super fast if it happens at all.

| Midas Blenny | Re: Amount of live sand Sand sifting gobies, or my favorite, nassarius snails. Don't freak out if you see red or green pockets against the glass. There tends to be some funky cyano that works down there sometimes. Freak out if those colors show up ON TOP of your sand ![]() Dave
