| Bryozoan | Re: New to Nano I went to the lfs to buy a couple of corals. I was thinking about getting the pink birdsnest and a colorful montipora. The lfs guy said usually sps corals are for established tanks (setup at least a year). So here is what he suggested. He gave me two frags, he was talking so fast that I missed the names (I guess I should of asked). Here they are; This one I believe is a montipora. ($5.99) He said look for new growth that should expand to the egdes and look for the color to be pink and green. This will be a good indicator that sps corals will do well in your tank. ![]() This one I believe is a acropora. (3.99) He said that this one should turn blue in 2 weeks if you have good water quality. ![]() So for a total of $10 I guess I will find out if my tank is ready to add more expensive sps corals. Does anyone know if these corals are montipora and acropora? He also said I don't need to feed these at this time. Is this correct? |

| Bryozoan | Question The LFS guy said that I won't need the blue sponge filter that came stock with the aquapod because I added a refugium with chaeto to the back. Also the sponge filter really didn't work with the protein skimmer there. I am now seeing an oily film on the surface of the water. Is this normal or is it because I don't have adequate filtration? Should I add a hangon filter? |

| Manta Ray | Re: New to Nano Sounds like you could use some surface agitation. I see you have what appears to be a hydor korelia nano powerhead. Not very adjustable. I would get an additional powerhead...HK1 place it mid tank and point it up toward the surface...that'll take care of that film, which I believe is a collection of gases. I haven't had my 3rd pot of coffee yet, so someone can correct me.

| Torch coral | Re: New to Nano Off to a great start - looking good - I wish, in retrospect that I would have scaped a little higher too.

| Bryozoan | Re: New to Nano Well I just got back from a 3 week vacation, my brother-in-law was topping off the water for me while I was away. Water test as follows: S.G. 1.026 pH 8.5 ALK 4 Cal 340 (added 2 cap of Reef Comp ~ should go to 360) The two corals I added earlier are still alive. The Chalice ![]() The Acropora ![]() Since they both are still alive, I decided to add a few more. ![]() ![]() ![]() And a few critters added: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| Torch coral | Re: New to Nano thats some very dark skimmate - you dont even have any fish in the tank do you? Im starting to believe what everyone says about my oceanic skimmer being a P.O.S.

| Bryozoan | Re: New to Nano When the pic was taken I only had 4 hermits, 2 snails. The Tunze Nano DOC Protein Skimmer 9002 works great. I don't have any exp with the oceanic skimmer, but stay away from the fission nano. I bought it before reading any reviews and it was truely a p.o.s. I am very satisfied with the Tunze Nano Skimmer. |

| Bryozoan | Re: New to Nano Question??? I have a Hang-on Refugium and I have noticed a lot of little white bug looking things. I think they are copods? Here is a pick. (to the right on the black wall) ![]() Should I add snails or a tiny fish to eat these and keep the refugium clean? |

| Bryozoan | Re: New to Nano I was never a fan of the 24 gallon aquapod stand or the curved glass front. I recently visited a new aquarium store and saw the 34 gallon solana and fell in love with the design. So, I will be busy transfering the 24 gallon to the 34 gallon. Anyone interested in a 24 gallon aquapod/stand/sunpod? I'm in Elk Grove, CA. Paid 500 but will sell for 250. A little over 2 months old. Current tank setup ![]() New tank to be setup ![]() Will keep you posted on progress of new tank. I am planning to do a diy overflow/sump. Hope all goes without disasters. |
