Exclamation Bought the Sapphire skimmer...now what?

Ok...took out all the media (sponges, balls ect) and put in the skimmer according to the criptic instructions. My water is cloudy and the water level in the back is lowered a bit. I can hear the little buggar working and see bubbles in the chamber, so, when will the water clear and what should I expect over the next few days? I've tried contacting the company with no luck at all!

Re: Bought the Sapphire skimmer...now what?

Hello, I have the Sapphire Skimmer, the recirculating model. This was the last design made before Kyle at Sapphire took a break from the business. I have mine in my 29 gallon Biocube in the middle chamber. I do know these skimmers require a "break-in" period of a couple of days. Kyle is usually pretty good about getting back to folks. And yes I can also hear mine, bit I don't find it offensive, the T.V. drowns out the noise!

Re: Bought the Sapphire skimmer...now what?

I installed one on a friends tank and had to mod the pump tube line. I found it was to short and raised the tanks water to high near the brace. With the mod i was able to get the water line in the back to drop and the tanks water level to be perfect.

How do you know what height to set the skimmer collection cup to?

Re: Bought the Sapphire skimmer...now what?

I set mine so that the bottom of the cup just touches to top of of the bubbles. It's just below half way on mine.

Re: Bought the Sapphire skimmer...now what?

Try lowering the water in the back to about half way and raising the cup. You can do a test drive in the kitchen sink too.
