Filtration & Phytoplankton....

In my 12g NanoCube other than live rock and live sand, the only other filtration element I use are the provided sponges. With the sponges I only use 2 instead of the originally 3 provided. I don't use any type of skimmer.

With that being said, does anyone know how long a dose of phytoplankton would stay actively useful in the tank? I was thinking that it would continue to provide useful for at least 24 hours. Can anyone provide me with a little more insight?

Thanks,
Chris
