Is this good or bad?

My bio 29 has been up since 12/28/07. Checked the parameters this morning. Salinity 1.025-26, ph 8, Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0 Temp 78. Unsure as to what this stuff is growing on my LR. Any Ideas? and is it time for the CUC?

Re: Is this good or bad?

Can't really see it all that well in the picture, but I would tend to think that if you have anything "growing" in your tank that's not obviously an algae bloom, you must be off to a good start Hopefully someone can pick out what that is though.

Re: Is this good or bad?

I have it on my rock too. I "knew" the name of it but have forgotten. It's not a bad thing, just a single cell growth. I'll check my notes when I get home for a name.

Looks to be a type of bryzoan I believe. Harmless little hitchhiker.

Re: Is this good or bad?

Agreed not a bad thing at all and probably a good sign at this point.

Re: Is this good or bad?

OK, .. it is a Homotrema rubrum aka Red tree foram. They eat suspended particules in the water column.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Re: Is this good or bad?

Oh man... You are in for a journey all right. Just wait till you start seeing all of the things that will start growing on your rocks and in your tank. Try to let nature take its course and enjoy the ride.
P.S.
Just kill all of the fire worms!

Re: Is this good or bad?

yup. usually though bristle worms are good cleaners, unless they get to big. but there are some in the family, refer to as fireworms that do pak a good punch.

Re: Is this good or bad?

With the questions that were just asked about fire worms / bristle worms I thought I would lead you to this thread. Reefkeeping Dangers

If you wear gloves you shouldn't have to worry about the punch a fireworm can give you.
