ZeroEdge aquariums...

Has anyone had any experience good/bad with these systems? They sure look real cool, but how is their function?

Thanks,
Chris

Re: ZeroEdge aquariums...

I think they have been discussed a few times, they look great but have issues, they started out for freshwater tanks if I remember correctly, for salt theres the salt creep, evaporation, distortion, carpet surfing, and the cleaning, dont think anyone here has one but who knows?

Re: ZeroEdge aquariums...

it does overflow, all the time lol, carpet surfing is when fish and snails and other critters escape , usually to the carpet

They look pretty cool but I don't know if I would put a Reef in them. All I can see are troubles keeping a reef in them.

Re: ZeroEdge aquariums...

I saw one of these set up at MACNA. It was stunning, but impractical! Carpet surfing is the main problem.

Nick, carpet surfing is a term we reefers use when one of our fishy friends decided to leap from the tank and take a slip-n-slide ride on the carpet. Usually ends in no good!

Re: ZeroEdge aquariums...

An LFS close to me has a bigger one set up and they have it stocked with some corals and a bunch of clams.

STUNNING!!! The clarity that you can see everything is unbelievable.

Terry, can you imagine keeping 8 sides of glass clean! These tanks are meant to be seen in the round.

Re: ZeroEdge aquariums...

Gotta agree there Kelli. It would make a great clam or just invertebrate tank.

Re: ZeroEdge aquariums...

One of my LFS (a very fastidious and anal one, I might add) had one. One day I went in and it was gone. I asked the owner why? "Too freaking hard to keep clean!!" was his answer, and I KNOW this guys is on top of all of his tanks.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Re: ZeroEdge aquariums...

Besides the additional work of cleaning a zero edge tank, and all the other problems they have, my question is what are you trying to show off?

Yes, a zero edge tank by itself does look fantastic, but isn't the goal here to show off the reef? I think that the show is the corals and fish, not an exotic looking tank.
