tank number 4

This little 2.5 has been cycling with a chunk of LR and some southdown for several weeks and my 2x13 watt PC's arrived from hellolights yesterday so I thought I'd start transferring stuff out of my minibow and 7.5 to fill it. I added a few more things this morning, so some of the zoos are still closed and the rics are a bit mad too, but here it is.

glare from the kitchen window, sorry.

it is a 2.5 minibow. i dremeled out the hood and installed a bayco rite lite 13 watt pc fixture from home depot. (20bux). it is enclosed in a clear plastic tube so it is waterproof. the electrical for the light is the "phone cord" that you see...and the ballast is in the plug.
i change a few cups of water every week. i run an aquaclear mini and a 25 watt visitherm.

drdrew,
I also have a 2.5 Minibow sitting at home waiting for a betta. How did you dremel out the hood? I am going to try to talk my girlfriend into letting me convert it to a micro reef like that. LOL Though I'm kinda scared to ask her. LOL

hmmm.
first of all go to lowes and see if you can find the worklite...rite lite...whatever it's called. is usually yellow and has a single 13watt PC at about 6700k inside i believe.

remove the incandescent light fixture. snip or dremel out the hood to make room for the rite lite...it fits in snugly. i used a zip tie through the vent holes on top for extra support.

ditch the filter that came with the minibow and buy an aquaclear mini.

if you find the lite..it should all make sense.
if it doesnt still, i will take some pictures of how i did mine...

wait a minute, i might be able to find a thread on this....

Thanks drdrew! That was my biggest concern. Everything else is simple.

EDIT: This is tricky. I checked the Lowes website and couldn't find that light, and the nearest Lowes to me is 120 miles away in Fargo, ND. I also checked the Home Depot website, and couldn't find a similar light.
