stocking plan for a 5 gallon.

well i got bored last night and set up a 5 gallon tank.

all its got now is about 3 lbs LS, an aquaclear HOB w/ a heater in it, and a rio 90 running too.

i was wondering last night as i was sawing up some extra wood siding to cover my custome cinderblock stand, can i have a single small fish?

im just gonna piece this tank togeather slowly, 20 bucks this week, 50 next, etc.

so plans are really up in the air.

i was considering the 70 watt viper MH and SPS, or just goin for uber fancy zoos, or goin cheapo and letting GSP just take the whole thing.

i was thinkin about 1 scarlet hermit, a small cerith, a nassarius snail, and like a shrimp.

i mean, whats the smallest lil marine fish?

Re: stocking plan for a 5 gallon.

I saw a tiny littlw mud minnow last time I was at the beach. You could put a mud minnow in there. They dont die. When I was little I would put them in the pool at the beach. I have seen them live in a highly chlorinated pool for 4 days.
Honestly I dont think I would put any fish in there. If you want SPS in a 5 gallon, I definatley would not put in any fish or invert for that matter.~Michael

Re: stocking plan for a 5 gallon.

smallest fish I have is a Blue Neon Goby. VERY cool fish and very light bio-load. Anything else other than a small Goby would be pushing it.

Pictures BOB! You know better than that

Re: stocking plan for a 5 gallon.

Possible fish choices would be Trimma sp. that reach about 1 inch in length, they are a cave species so if you go sps I wouldn't recomend.
The host gobies, Pleurosicya sp. is another choice that stays under 1 in in length and is found associated with sponges, sps corals, clams or soft corals.
I do recomend keeping them 10-15 gallon tanks only because feeding fish if very difficult in a 3-5 gallon tank without polluting the water. It's much easier to stick with shrimp, snails, and hermit crabs in such a small aquarium.

Re: stocking plan for a 5 gallon.

I love clown gobies. The yellow are the smallest but they are all pretty small.

Re: stocking plan for a 5 gallon.

I would not do a JBJ Viper. JBJ is known for making some pretty crappy products. I have heard several reviews on the Viper units and it turns out they are making the ballast for the fixture too small and it is over running the ballast and in some cases starting fires. I would go with this unit. osCommerce
