CurrentUSA Nano Skimmer....any users out there?

Does anyone have any experience with this skimmer? It's tiny and might be better than the Sapphire Aquatics NC24 I am using right now in the back compartment of my AP24. The NC24 is noisy and finicky to operate. I'm wondering if the CurrentUSA model is any better?

Thanks
John

I personally have never had one, but I have been warned not to use them. I was told that they have inconsistent results.

Re: CurrentUSA Nano Skimmer....any users out there?

I HAVE used the Fission Nano skimmer.

It's a POS.

WHY?

Because it uses a sponge to force the bubbles up into the chamber. That sponge--when it's new and clean--allows microbubbles to flow through it and into the friggin' TANK!! So, you end up with gazillions of microbubbles all over in your tank.

Eventually (3 weeks) the sponge "breaks in" and most of the bubbles flow up into the venturi where they make foam.

After 6 weeks, the sponge is so gunked up that it must be cleaned or the skimmer will not function at all because it's trying to make foam 2" below the collection cup--in the sponge. So, you take the sponge out and you either clean it or replace it. Another 3 weeks of microbubbles in the tank.

Another thing that totally sucks about this POS skimmer is the fact that 1/4" of change in water height makes it totally useless. You have to adjust it EVERY FRIGGIN' DAY. It's AWFUL. If you let just 1/4" of water evaporate out of the tank, it's too high and too far out of the water. Doesn't skim worth a darn. But, if you move it just 1/8" down into the water too far--it fills the collection cup with "water" in about 2hrs.

And ANOTHER thing that I hated about this POS skimmer:
See that nice little drain tube on the bottom of the coo\llection cup? Oh, thats so cool!! They were actually THINKING about the hobbyist when they designed it. You can hook up a piece of airline tubing to that drain line and dump the skim right into a milk jug. That way you don't have to empty the cup every day. Thats such a drag.

Well, that would be GREAT, if the stupid drain tube wasn't BELOW the rim of the tank. How on earth do you drain skimmer goo UPHILL and over the top of the tank? Even with your tank running at MAX capacity--filled to the rim--the skimmer drain is still BELOW the rim of the aquarium. There is absolutely NO WAY to mount the skimmer any higher in the tank. So, that fancy little drain is completely worthless.

tried it... trashed it. I f you can add a sump that is the way to go, then you can use a "real" protein skimmer.

If you want a good hob skimmer go for the Aqua C Remora.
