Mike's 20 cube build thread

Turned my 20 cube into swiss cheese. 1" overflow to 10 gl fuge, 1/2 return by Maxijet 1200, closed loop. I went with the new Marineland 220 canister filter instead of the marinsland 350. The 350 seemed a little too much flow. There is an extra hole so later I might use the 350 and return by 2 holes, but I think this will work well. Also using an AC 70 so the water movement seems plenty.
Lighting is due in tomarrow. Ordered an electronic 175wt ballast and a 175 wt 15k XM. Will be doing a DIY pendant, pics to come. Right now using Coralife 96wt quad as I sold my 70wt DIY 14k 70wt MH the other day.
Added another 20# bag of sand to the 20# that was in the 14gl and ended up with a 4" DSB/ But the new tiger pistol should be happy. Already has an extensive tunnel.

Looks great Mike. Are you using the Magnum for the closed loop? What are you using for a return pump? Although it may be dangerous to tell me, I've still got a 29 gallon that's not in use right now.

Re: Mike's 20 cube build thread

Got my lighting but it is jury rigged for now till I can make soem final cuts on the hood so I won't show it now. It isn't anything great though, just a box pendant with an XM 15k 175wt.
I have to be acrefula nd keep an eye on the yumas as they are not used to this high a lighting.
Here are a few pics of the corals. Sorry, I just like to show them off and nothing to do tonight. Crappy pics, drink a few buds and they will look better.

Pulled it and put in a magnum 220. The flow was too strong witht the 350.

Wish I knew you had a 175 retro. I could have taked you out of it and saved me some $.

Gosh, your tank looks BEAUTIFUL! I only wish I had the talent to make mine look that good! I've only drank one bud too so my train of thought is still clear!

No talent. I cheat. I allowed the rock and initial sand to cure for 2 months before adding any livestock and I use Fostersmith phospur pads and water changes with Reef Crystals. I tryed Instant Ocean for a time, but results were poor.
Also I have a large chaeto fuge only one 1" fish, 1 pistol shrimp for sand maint. and 1 small astrea snail, so bio-load is low. Probably wouldn't be doing as good if I had more fish.

Re: Mike's 20 cube build thread

Some pics of zoanthids. I don't know what they are all called. A couple I know.
Just got these the other day. I like all red colored zoanthids best.

I bought these as Atomics a while back. They are growing about average.

Some of my favorites. LRS gave me a couple of polyps and they have started to take off.

Don't know the name. I have about 3-4 frags of these all with slight color variations.

Blaah! How did these greens get in here? Notice the zoanthids below the Green Dragon Eyes. I think they are called Mean Greens.

Re: Mike's 20 cube build thread

Ok Mike, since you don't like the greens you can give them to me. They will contrast nicely with my Pink Panthers. Just LMK.
