Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

It's possible they're a little bleached and are still acclimating to your lighting. Did you acclimate them to your light at all? What sort of lighting were they under at the LFS where you bought them? this could give you a really good hint as to what's going on...

Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

i do acclimate them to my lights, where I get my rics they are in a big display, open top with more of a blue spectrum MH im thinking that they are WAAAAAYYY to bright for them, they are just scattered around their display and I choose them singly....most of them arent expanded there but you can see the health, Im running only 72watts 10000k/actinic on my 29....i heard once they bleach out, thats it....they are done...what do you think???

Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

I disagree. I have a couple rics the size of a pencil eraser that were COMPLETELY washed out after my trip from poland. I put them in a less bright area of the tank until i saw the color start to come back a bit, moved them back, and now they are getting better with each passing week. Rics can absolutely make a comeback if they have a chance. It is possible also that they were adapted to that MH... so don't count that out either. Just keep close watch on them and if they're in a high light area of the tank, maybe consider moving them at least temporarily to a lower light area.

Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

I have already moved them down to the bottom, under an overhang, so its not DIRECT light, but secondary!

Hmm, It may be time to let them get a bit more light, or at least try it. If they look like they're steadily deteriorating, you may as well move them out into the light and see if they perk up a little. If you've seen flricordea's tank you'll realize real quick that rics can do awesome under MH. maybe they're not getting enough light. just my two cents, im sure someone else will add to this though

Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

Can't help you there unfortunately.. is it possible that the skimmer is vibrating somehow since it's contained in that back section of the tank..?

Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

Ok, well went to the LFS, and the "big shipment" ended up NOT very big at all, nothing I saw I HAD to have, better to wait until I absoultley have to have it!!! Here are some pictures anyway, to see coralline growth and the new skimmer in action! Already getting some skimate, still kinda whitish foam with a tinge of green/brown

Green Zoas, with Palys(was 1, now 4!!)

Ring Of Fire..

My favorite rock(coralline on this one and the green zoa rock is spreading the fastest)

My Blenny w/ rics

Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

Great photos. Light bioload = less skimmate = healthy livestock/good water quality.

Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

you are right there craig! I was tryin to keep it small before I got the skimmer, so now that I got it, I have a couple places I want to attach some branch LR and make more shelves with it...The overall layout should change a little bit..
