Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

Read Below the picture for more....
THE BEFORE PICTURE!!!!!!

I get home from work by 4:45, I reset my timers so the lights would go off and cool before I got home(and so everybody could get some light as I worked on originals) They weren't off. Oh well, shut em' off, have a beer, chill for a minute. GOOD TO GO! Start working at 5:30. All is going smoothly until i have to install the stock bulb clips back on................MISSING A MACHINE SCREW!!! Off to Lowes!!! Here is a picture while I am shopping...

I get back from lowes install stock clips, back on track. Yea, By this time it was 7:30. Fish wires through holes drilled in the hood, screw new heat shield with endcaps down into hood, replace splash shield. HOOD IS COMPLETE! Now on to the ballast and electrical. Fiance was on the phone, so I told myself "I will wait to drill the side of this box out, and just wire the ballast" WRONG ANSWER!!!! I had to fish wires through first... Used connectors that came with kit...BACK TO LOWES to get new pigtail connectors...ENJOY PICTURE.....

Back from lowes again, connectors in hand...It is now 9:00pm whew I am getting tired, have had a headache all day long, all through the building process, its because of a cool front on its way today. Anyway, Finish drilling out ballast box, and completed wiring the power switch, ballast to endcaps, power switch to power cord and fan ac/in. 10:15pm OK!!! ALL DONE!!!! Plugged everything in and started the light show!!!! I like the way it looks, and I think it will perform quite well. HERE IS THE AFTER PICTURE!!!!!!

Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

Awesome lights and work buddy! Be sure to take some "close-up" shots or your corals so you can determine increases growth.

Also note you may get a mild algae bloom with the increased bulb pack and new bulbs.

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

Had a nice long non busy weekend. Clean algae and did water change (4 gallons) on Friday. Also cleaned the skimmer pumps and main pump, all working nicely. Coralline starting to grown on display glass. My soapdish refugium is working flawlessly, chaeto is about ready to be cut back a little, growing out of soapdish. Well, here is what you have all been waiting for!! PICTURES PICTURES PICTURES!!!! I moved almost every coral, I WAS GOOD and WORE GLOVES!! Put all the rics as low as possible.....in adjustment to the new lights, I started out with only 6 full hours of sunlight. then have been upping that by 15 minutes both ways on the time scale, a total of 1/2 hour each day....seem to be adapting VERY WELL.

My Prized Blue Rics, There is now 4 total blue rics, all this gorgeous color.

The rest of my rics on the RIC ROCK!

This is my second favorite Ricordea, Neon green mouth, with dk green center polyps, to blue polyps around the disc, and then to dk green around the very edge.

Red Micro Zoas: They are in the middle now, nice and bright:

**These next ones gotta go, Im selling them or trade..I will post a thread later...Olive Green Button Polyps. VERY FAST growers in my tank.

Ring of Fire zoas(fragged once already, bout ready to go again, frag was sent to MichealCB in Round Robin #2)

Blue ric and Round Robin #3 frag under actinics:

Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

They look VERY well buddy. Sometimes it's hard to "appreciate" lighting in our pics but your critters look happy in the pics. Are you pleased with the new bulbs?

Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

yea, but looking at the old actinic against the new actinic, its very displeasing, i can see the intensity difference. That is the next absolute have to have on the list, is new replacements for the old stock ones. ASAP, so when it comes time to change them next time, I can do them all at once....just start buying new ones a month in advance!

Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

I would not try to replace all at once. I would do it in stages that way you have a more "Even" spread instead of going from a full set of OLD bulbs to a full set of new ones. That's how I do mine. I am trying to get on a schedule to "Stagger" the bulb replacement so that I don't shock the tank every 8 months or so. Does that make sense?

You know if we went with LED we could spend our time talking and thinking about more important things
