Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

That SUCKS about them OUT OF STOCK!! Dang it!!

Hey Daniel, seriously if you're not testing for it don't dose for it. You run a MUCH greater chance of doing more harm than good. Your tank looks to good to risk over-dosing on supplements. Iodine is VERY toxic even at very low dosages. I'd either get a test kit and verify it's needed or stop dosing "today". It's not worth the risk.

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

Ok, you guys got me worried, I have never dosed in the past, and I started hoping it *might* fix/solve some issues with the rics, I will stop until I get a test kit for them, and only then If I need them I will start adding again....now its gonna be a little while longer for the lights.....

Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

Good job buddy. Many people will "dose" just because "others do or say so" but every tank is so different. So you never know exactly how much really IS being taken out of your tank. Remember that on many tanks no dosing is needed because water changes replenish a lot of your essentials. Odds are you may need to does something in the future so dosing is NOT out of the question but you need to know how much and WHEN to dose. Remember we're striving for a balance here and without knowing how far OFF you are you have no way of know HOW to balance it back. Being low in most elements is MUCH safer than high. When you start reaching the upper limits "Strange" things happen and THOSE things happen very quickly.

good luck buddy.

Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

That's good to hear!

I get my new bulbs monday too... pathetically exciting isnt it Dan? lol I'm hoping they will help my xenia perk back up and wake my ricordea back up as well! I think the "optimum" life of the bulbs for maintaining coral health is much shorter than the expected 6 months. At least with the coralife bulbs it seems.

Thats exactly when I last changed mine, and I too am noticing differences. Guess the burn life of the coralife bulbs is only about 5 months

Re: My 29 Bio Cube build thread

Accurate Iodine test are difficult to find, LaMottes would be a good place to start. Iodine could me causing the cupping, a respose to the irritation, if you've dosed too much. Have you done a water change lately?
