| Reef Addict (hopeless) ![]() | If I order "regular" sized rock like Fiji Live Rock: Select Premium Fiji Live Rock from Drs. Foster & Smith and say a piece is too long (14" would be too long for a 12g Nano-Cube) can I bust it into more "usable" pieces? Would that pose any problems? Like if I got a 14" piece I could use a hammer (lots of TOOLS here) to make maybe 2 7" pieces which would work better and I could, if needed, put the freshly broken part down into the sand. Is this common practice or not? I know they have "nano-packs" like http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...fm?pCatId=1949 of rock but then I run the chance of not getting ANY larger pieces at all and only end up with a pile of rubble instead of something I can "work" with. Ideas? Suggestions? Warnings? Donations? ![]() Allen

| Manta Ray | Re: Nano Rock ? LOL @ Donations... You can bust the rock into smaller pieces. Be warned... you will make a mess. You also need to add a large flat head screwdriver to your tools list and use it like a chisel to help break it a little more efficiently. Chances are, it will not break exactly the way you want it too...

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: Nano Rock ? LOL @ the donations! I would think the nano packages have smaller rocks to work with but I like large pieces myself. If the price isn't too high, getting it shipped overnight would certainly be better and would reduce the dieoff.

| Fire Coral | Re: Nano Rock ? Is the rock already cured? If it is its only cured on the outside. So breaking it into pieces has the potential to put some nitrates in your tank. So you might consider re-curing it. Its not a big deal though. I broke up pieces and put them in mine it didnt really do much. But still thought i would share. Have fun! |

| Reef Addict (hopeless) ![]() | Re: Nano Rock ? It's "Precured" with a suggestion re-curring procedure listed on their website. It's going into a newly set-up LS only tank so I guess I'll just cure it IN the tank and watch my water parameters to determine it's curing stage. Once all come BACK to ZERO we should be GOOD to go. I'll take pics and notes along the way. I do have ONE question.... will it hurt to put some of the LR Rubble into my existing tank? Or will that throw off the existing tank badly? I'm wanting to make a "Refuge" for my existing tank from any rubble that comes in this shipment.

| Manta Ray | Re: Nano Rock ? Since you are already re-curing it... I would suggest curing it all in the new tank and then transferring any rubble to the fuge.

| Achilles Tang | Re: Nano Rock ? I used some of my woodworking chisels to break up one monster rock I got. (it looked really small at the LFS, but was too big to fit in my 45g tank). I just started each chisel into the rock along the line I wanted it to fracture along and tapped each one in really slow trying to keep them all at the same depth. It worked really well for me, but I may have just gotten lucky. I can't say as to what effect it had on my system since it was one of the first rocks in my display. This was months before I bought anything live (other than rocks and sand) so I didn't really keep up with the water specs.

| Reef Addict (hopeless) ![]() | Re: Nano Rock ? Thanks for the input. I'll see what size they send to me (I requested a certain size range but not sure how much affect that has on the actual shipment but I WILL write a review once it comes in). I am fairly confident I can get the pieces near the size I want with common tools. I'll just have to see what it looks like and then try to follow the mental blueprint my brain comes up with. Who knows.. may end up looking like am emploded hotel from Vegas BABY!! ![]() Allen
