nano tank

I currently have a 55gal reef with mostly LPS and softies. I am thinking of setting up a 12gal nano to put it in our bedroom. The problem I might have is water temp during summer times. I would like to know how people here handles their water temperature during summer time on the nano tanks.

Thanks

Re: nano tank

Alot of people use fans blowing on the tank constantly, and an open top tank will let humididty out, But you have to be very careful with evaporation and quick water salinty changes. It will have to be monitored alot. Ive even heard some people will put ice in a bag and float it in the tank. Good luck

Re: nano tank

for the evaporation, i can use a dripper from gallon milk bottle like i made for kalk. my concern was the temp, i guess it will work with a mini fan on 24/7

thanks

Re: nano tank

I have a small fan mounted on the inside top of my canopy (by the lights).
I had no problems with temp last summer - but I do AC the apartment so the temp inside never went over 80 degrees.

Re: nano tank

what kind of skimmer, if any, do you use. now i am thinking pico wise. 5gal tank with sexy , Harlequin , Anemone , Zebra Shrimps. no fish

Can i still put a couple of Nassarius Snails?
Coral wise I am thinking zoas, gsp (as base)

Also hoping to add Duncans and Dendros, if I can get them

Re: nano tank

I also have a skimmer.
My LFS custom made my acrylic tank (12g) and they built a skimmer in the back chamber powered by a rio600 power head. It is simply a round acrylic cylinder tube with a colection cup. It works great too.
I still do weekly water changes but there have been a few times that I have gone longer (2 weeks) between water changes.
