looking to start up a nano

Great forum. Kudos to the experienced reefers willing to share their experience with the noobs. There is a ton of information here and have tried to do some research before posting.

I've successfully had fresh water fish for a number of years and am considering getting into salts. The all in ones seem like they might be a good starting point but funds are not limitless.

I've been reading the great things that everyone has done to modify the various all in one pod's and I also realize some of the enjoyment of the hobby is making modifications to your system but has anyone been able to successfully raise soft corals and a few fish with the stock lighting on the Aquapod 24. I like the stock lighting because of the enclosed hood. Maybe I missed something in the forum but haven't seen many posts that have stock lighting.

I've talked with folks at the LFS and they indicated it would be possible, just replace the stock filter media with LR and should be ok. From the what I have read I was concerned they may just want to sell me a tank.

If someone is using stock lighting and would not mind sharing their experience it would be appreciated. Or if anyone has an opinion jump in.

On mod I would like to do is include a fuge. Seems like a great way to increase water volume, add stability, and filteration. I've seen some of the hang-on fuge people have made but have the room and extra 20 gal tank for a seperate fuge. Also would provide a place for a skimmer. Does anyone have seperate fuge in their set-up? If so do you use a overflow box to get water from one of the filter chambers or drill the tank? Any suggestions on getting water to a seperate tank would be welcome.

Also in searching other forums I found a post on the new specs for the 2007 Nanocube. The post was dated back in 2006 and haven't seen anything since. Seems like a good set-up - 28 gal - HQI lighting - built in skimmer - dual pumps - wave timer - 4 fans - removable media basket (maybe to pricey tho) Has anyone heard any additional news on this pod. When, how much, how good?

I have a 24g Aquapod with stock lighting for my seahorse tank. I have several soft corals in it with no problems. I have mushrooms, zoas, xenia, and several non photosynthetic corals. I have raised the lid and it sits on my hood since I have the 24 sharing a system with my 125. Unless you drill the tank I don't know how you would add a sump without removing the hood. I guess you could probably cut the hood somehow, but I have never done anything like that. To share water between the 2 tanks I have a small pump in the back of the pod that pumps water into the 125. Then I have a gravity fed u tube that brings water from the 125 back to the 24. To do this though both tanks have to be at the same height and most people put the sump under the tank so you would probably do the reverse. It could get tricky though to balance the flow depending on the pump etc.

Welcome to RS! Lynn has given you a ton of great info. I do have experience with the BioCube 29, which is similar. As far as adding a fuge... I know BrothaWolf used the CPR HOB Fuge for his. Check this thread...

Can you drill on the Aquapods? Is anyone using an overflow box with one of the pod style tanks?

Do overflow boxes work well in general?

If anyone else has experience or opinions on the stock lighting or how to get water from the pod to a seperate fuge please chime in.
