Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

I have yet to find bottled pods or pods for sale at the LFS.

I'm thinking my traveling polyps might be a good trates indicator. Everyone else in the tank looked fabulous on Tuesday but those guys, and when I tested the levels, my trates were up to 20 and my ammonia had risen slightly. Yeesh. Water change on Tuesday brought the trates down to 5, and the traveling polyps were back out. I did another w/c yesterday, and hopefully everything will be 0 today.

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

Bought a nano sized heater for the cube over the weekend; also added a smallish bag of Pura complete to the first chamber.

Very tempted by a nano-sized skimmer at an LFS in Atlanta, but don't want to shell out 40 bucks for one just yet.

The psuedochromis is going away this weekend, and I'm thinking about moving my yellow clown goby to the cube. Or perhaps buying a six line wrasse. I'm still undecided.

I installed a 75w Jargo (sp?) into chamber #3 and it's awesome.. I mean NO fluctuation at all day or night. What one did you get?

I think that's a GREAT idea. Would LOVE to hear all about it too *Grin*

Why is he leaving? I was looking to get one for My tank thinking it would add a very nice splash of color to my tank.

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

The pseudochromis is a bastard!!! One of the reasons I had to take the firefish back is that he was beating the crap out of them. He beats up on my clownfish too. When I got my cleaner pack for the 46g, I traded some of the smaller snails for the larger ones in my nano, and he was nipping at the new snails when they came out of their shells. He is almost as bad as having a damsel. Heck, I'd even take a cute little four-line damsel over this guy.

As for the heater, I'll have to check on the brand. It was not a Jager. I actually had to unplug it because the temperature fluctuations in my house make it too hot in the room. I put it on the side of the tank near the intake. No room in the chambers at the moment.

I knooooow the skimmer is a great idea. I have a coralife HOB on the 46g and I love it. I'm especially tempted now that I have more livestock in the tank and I'm doing more frequent water changes. I've noticed a film on top of the water lately, even with the purigen and a bag of PURA-complete.

In other news, one of my green hairy mushrooms split this week! I wasn't expecting much of that in the nano, and I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the addition of vitamin C in the past couple of weeks.

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

Instead of cursing the b/f with the psuedochromis, I took it to the LFS and bought myself a super cute six-line wrasse. Peace has been restored to the nanocube.

Unfortunately, to get the psuedo out of there I had to remove every piece of rock in the tank. Of course now that I've put it all back in I can't get it into nearly the same configuration as it was before. Grrr. Not happy with the way things look right now, but once I get things looking good again I'll take some more pics.

I can't wait to see the pics! Do you have a pic of before handy so you can use it as a blueprint to re-create the MasterPiece? I'm looking forward to seeing your new "critter" in there!!!

I have been thinking about this... we need something to make it easier and less stressful on EVERYONE to catch these quick and overly evasive critters! I wonder if you could fashion a "capture wall" from acrylic that's just a hair more narrow than the tank width or something along those lines to "corral" the rascal for capture. It seems harsh but it would minimize the stress and potential harm to our "scaley" friends! Anyone got or seen one of these? should I make some real quick?

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

I have had great luck with fish traps. You just have to release the fish you don't want to catch and wait for the one you do want to investigate the trap. They seem to get braver the longer it is in the tank.

I've seen fish traps at various stores. Don't think you need to make one anytime soon, Al.

New pics: haven't done much with the cube in the last six months. I bought a starfish, moved, my six line kicked the bucket, then I started med school. But here are some pics.

RIP Nanocube

After months of neglecting my 12g nanocube in favor of getting my 46g reef in order and trying to survive medical school, I have decided to retire the cube. All the rock got transferred to the 46g, but I'm still running light cycles with live sand and water in the tank until I sell it. If anyone knows of someone who wants a basic nanocube, let me know.

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

What about using it as a Fuge or Sump for the 46?
