Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

Looks great!

I agree on not putting a member of the dragonette family into a nano, fuge or not. They are voracious pod eaters, and can get very expensive to feed once they have depleted the pod population in the tank and a unless you plan on building something like a 50g fuge, your fuge will not output enough pods to sustain the fish either. What about something like a royal gramma or purple pseudochromis? The psuedo will be agressive, but the clown sounds like it can hold its own, and pseudos are full of personality.

On this pic, it is actually a finger leather not a toadstool...

I think at this point I won't be adding any more fish to the nano. I'm fine with the pseudo and clownfish for now, and more than likely I'll move them to the big tank later and get some smaller fish for the nano.

I didn't ID that coral as a toadstool. And I wouldn't classify him as "small."

The toadstool I was referring to is in this pic, chilling under the ricordia:

Ahhh, ok! I didn't see a toadstool in your tank, so I figured that is what you were talking about.

Nice rics!

Yep, he's a small guy. And if you look closely at the fifth pic down, there's an even tinier toadstool right above the zoas.

Thanks for the compliment! The rics and hairy mushrooms are looking great so far.

Firefish are also very delicate fish that are prone to jumping. They are very timid and slow feeders so they don't go well in tanks with anything that has any sort of aggression.

Would this help with a "pod" problem in a smaller tank?

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

They can help, but without a place for them to safely breed they will be gone very quickly. Mandarins and scooter blenneys need a constant supply to live off of. The 200 pods in the package would probably last them a week or two.

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

So do they live in the LR or only in vegetation?

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

They love live rock rubble and cheato. Either one can make a great breeding ground.

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

That's SWEET! I have "Cheato" on the way and will have some rubble next week. Maybe then I'll have some pod's for my critters!

Sunnie, do you have rubble or Cheato? Have you seen any "pods" in your tank? They are visible to the naked eye right?

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

Yes they are visible but they are not very big. I only see them if I am looking for them and usually in the fuge. I think my mandarin and my scooter eat everything in the display.

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

I don't have any extra rubble or cheato. I have seen pods before, especially in the sponges when I've cleaned them out, and occasionally floating around.

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

justsunnie I wanted to give you an update... I added some "Cheato" into a soapdish and it's suspended under the waterfall of my HOB filter system inside my tank. It's been in my tank for maybe a week now and yesterday I saw my "scooter" having what seemed to be a treat from something skirting around my LR. Last night the power went off and I was watching the tank with a flashlight... low and behold there are a TON of pods swimming around in there (much more visible in the direct beam of the flashlight in the otherwise dark surroundings) .... and WHILE I was watching I got to watch "scooter" come up to the soapdish and suck in some treats.... maybe he is doing well.... so far his colors are more vibrant than they have been since I got him in January and he seems as active and happy (from what I can tell) as ever. I'm NOT saying it's the best situation but maybe I got lucky with this one. Maybe?
