I'm gonna keep tabs on your progress because I'll be getting my NANO Cube 12g in a few weeks here for my office. Your tank LOOKS great! I hope you don't mind if I pick your brain some when I start setting up my Cube.

Let's just say I like em They add a splash of color and helped to keep my "banded coral shrimp" in check. Nahh just kidding.... I only had ONE and he looked so lonely. LFS had two left in a big tank and I just couldn't leave one alone to I bought both of them. Now they are all THREE in that big tank and seem to be happy. I had to remove EVERYTING in my tank to get at them. They are very clever, slick and "form fitting" creatures when it's time to get away from the net. By the time I had them bagged I was covered in salt water and sweat!

Now if I can just get the LFS to get me a very small false perc clown that tank will be "stocked".

Allen

PS I found myself shopping for slightly larger tanks while I was there but let's NOT tell my wife about that

Yep, this is definately gonna bug me.

But rather than argue about it, I'll put it to a poll:

ID the clownfish!

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

The firefish weren't doing so well, so I took them back yesterday. They were getting picked on by my clown and fighting the current quite a bit. Hopefully I'll get some store credit on them in a couple days.

Now, would it be safe to get a small bottom feeder like a diamond goby? Or will two do as far as fish in this tank goes?

I have a scoot blenny in my 10g that's a HOOT! My inventory of fish is simple right now

1x Scooter Blenny Saltwater Aquarium Fish for Marine Aquariums: Scooter Blenny

1x FireFish (already know what that one is)

and within a week I'll have some type of clown in there as long as my chems stay ZERO and stable over the next few days. I don't add anything new until I know my tank isn't in the middle of some mini-cycle or something. There's just not enough "tank" there to buffer any large swings in the chems.

Sorry your firefish wasn't able to hang in there. It's probably a good thing you decided to take him back. Good for you

Allen

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

I've seen scooter blennys around, and they are definately little fish with a lot of personality! I also like the lawnmowers, and for a little while I had a bicolor.

The reason I was leaning toward the diamond goby was that they were in stock at the time I bought the firefish. Unfortunately they've sold out in the last week, and since my store is moving they won't have any new stock until the end of the month. Boo!

Ooh...the DX...

I've only got the basic 12g cube.
Debated on whether or not to get the custom top with tons more light, but I think I'll sink my lighting budget into the 46.

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

It's a very bad idea to keep a scooter blenny in a small tank. They aren't blennies but members of the dragonet family which require a lot of pods to keep them alive long term. In such a small tank they wil slowly starve to death. They need at least 75Gallon tank with about 100lb of live rock just like the mandarin dragonet does.

Firefish are also very delicate fish that are prone to jumping. They are very timid and slow feeders so they don't go well in tanks with anything that has any sort of aggression.

Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

I'm building a "fuge" hopefully this weekend to take care of the "pod" issue.... and the firefish seems to be doing great... it gets lots of personal attention *S*

Red face Re: Sunnie's 12g nanocube

Great news! I just added a nice little collection of corals to my nano! Friday I bought a bunch of stuff for my 46g, and also decided to go for a nice leather that was pretty cheap. There also appear to be some favites on the rock with it.

We did the coral swap with my bfs buddy on Saturday, which actually consisted of him breaking down his 55g reef tank and giving us everything in it. We split up the remains, and most of what I'm getting will be going into the 46 once it cycles. I did get some little nano sized frags for the 12g though, including a small toadstool leather and a few polyp rocks (mostly zoos). I introduced everyone Saturday afternoon, and all is well so far.

I would have pics, but my memory card appears to have crapped out on me, erasing the 100 or so pics I have saved. Grrr.
