Going Nano. Help Please

After much debating I have decided to set a small nano and tear down my 65 reef. What would be an ideal size and what if any of the equipment I have on the 65 could be used on the new nano. The list of equipment is listed in My signature. I have lots of rock and live sand. I was hoping to use the corals in the 65 to stock the nano. I have mostly Zoos, a frogspawn and a few other odds and ends. I try for some pics of whats in the 65. My main concern is lighting for the nano. Any ideas on where to start. Do I need a skimmer and will down sizing lighting hurt what I have. I have noticed that the Zoos are not happpy under my lights.

sorry Alan, my canuck bro~ thats a standard AGA 33 US gallon. long for great scaping and footprint, yet shallow for even PC lighting to accomidate most reef life.

Re: Going Nano. Help Please

My 20 gallon long worked fabulous! As Dave said longs are shallower and wider than talls and much better for landscaping. Good luck Alan!

Re: Going Nano. Help Please

I'm setting one up in a 29. Not much length, but if it takes off in a year I'll consider moving it up to a 75 I've got in the basement.

IF the wife will give me the money to get that one going.

Regards,
Tom

Re: Going Nano. Help Please

if you're not going to do SPS/high light clams, i'd ditch your current lighting... especially over a shallow tank, you'll fry everything.

keep as much LR as you can! unless you had any big fish, you'll probably be ok with most of your stock in the 33, if that's what you go with. not *totally* nano, but close. you can likely still use your skimmer and pumps (return pumps might be all you need for flow)... but yeah. you should be able to get quite a smaller tank going from just selling off your lights and tank/stand.
