| Serpent Star | Re: how did you fit your fission nano skimmer into your JBJ? I am yet to hear of one person that is happy with this little "spit bug". Please if you get it to work share the secret!! Shame really....its to dependent on water level and requires continual adjustment. I hear remora is going to be releasing a mini HOB..::Perk:: Now THATS something I might even cut a hole for... Steve

| Sea Pen | Re: how did you fit your fission nano skimmer into your JBJ? i don't see why the water level is a big deal with this??? you should maintain constant water levels anyways with a DAILY freshwater topoff. i have heard that the only way to keep them working is to keep them clean on a regular (twice a week) basis. |

| Fire Coral | Re: how did you fit your fission nano skimmer into your JBJ? z32tt, I got mine working in the first compartment on the 12 DX, it takes a little maneuvering, but it does fit. It works great for about 3 days and then you have to clean it out. It also does not produce much of anything except lots of micro bubbles in the display tank. Mine is not noisy, but it's just as well that you removed it, I am going to remove mine too. It's just not worth it. Weekly 1G water changes have worked great for me and I have a heavy bioload with the two False Perculas. |

| Fire Coral | Re: how did you fit your fission nano skimmer into your JBJ? Read the other post on it and you will see that a very few people have had any luck with it with most people not being able to get it to work properly. I have owned two, and the LFS store has stop carrying them because of all the complaints they had. They skim very little and that is when you have it set in there just right, and when it is not, then the cup fills up with water. I had my uncle(who has set up serveral protein skimmers) try to get it to work and after a couple of weeks could not get it to do much, if anything. The LFS owner didnt believe so he set it up to prove me wrong and after a week or so; he gave up. With that and several other complaints he stop selling it. One person on another site had it kill everything in there tank after a few hours. I have read all the post and one time gave a positive post on it after spending hours of getting it to work right but it didnt last long. Once you water level drops just a little it stops. Too much work for this thing. I have less nitrates by using Purigen than that protien skimmer. Nitrates w/skimmer - Always between 10 - 20 (tested twice a week for 3 weeks) Nitrates without skimmer using Purigen - Always 2.5 (tested twice a week for two and a half weeks) I had two and I believe they are junk!

| Serpent Star | Re: how did you fit your fission nano skimmer into your JBJ? I bought one too. Water level is the crucial component. If it's 1/16" too high, it skims green water. If it's 1/16" too low, it doesn't skim anything. As soon as the sponge gets clogged with goop, it overflows the cup in about 5 minutes. I don't know about the rest of you, but my 30g tank fluctuates 1/2" or more on a daily basis. I live in Colorado where it's always dry and water evaporation is rapid. With my water level fluctuating 1/2" daily, the Fission Nano doesn't work very well. Sure, you could get less water level fluctuation in a larger tank, but if that were the case, you wouldn't be using this protein skimmer in the first place. Waste of $30 IMHO. |
