| Fire Coral | Questions about water changes I went to the LFS to buy some R/O premixed and they tried to sell me boxed water already premixed called Nutra-sea at $15 for 4.4G Can anyone tell me about it. He told me how great it is. He also told me to only change my water about every 3 - 4 weeks using this water and I would be alot better off than doing weekly water changes with R/O water on weekly or bi-weekly basis. Please does any one can help me with info.

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: Questions about water changes Did you ask if he was getting commision from the sale of that water??Seriously, It is very expensive but I know a few reefers that use it and like it......... but to claim that using it will reduce the frequency of needed water changes is preposterous! The number of water changes needed is determined on a case-by-case basis for each marine aquarium. Some tanks with a low-to-no bioload can go a looooong time without water changes; others with a high bioload would need frequent water changes. The frequency of needed water changes can only be determined by testing your water (not by the salt mix you use). If your water parameters are in check (ph, nitrAte, etc, etc,), then and only then can you postpone a water change. ME? I choose to perform regular changes to ensure that the animals are getting every mineral needed and to export nasties~~

| Reef Shark ![]() | Re: Questions about water changes your LFS guy is just trying to sell you stuff again. I'm not familiar with that particular brand, but Petco sells "Catalina water" which is NSW taken from southern California. They're high priced, and it's not as good as advertised. IMO, you'd be better advised to buy water from the machines at your grocery store, a local "water store" or even Wal-Mart, and mix your own, than to buy the stuff they want to sell you, and IME, doing 10-25% weekly changes, is one of the BEST things you can do for your tank.
