does your pistol do this

ok this goes out to anyone that has a pistol shrimp. my pistol loves taking my frags away for his burrow. he killed some nice zoos that way. i found them but they never recovered. well today thank god i went down to check the tank and he had moved three of my acan frags into his burrow. well after having the clownfish attack me for about 5 min i was able to get the frags out and back in place. should i be giving the pistol some rubble for his tunnels? i put some rubble in their so at least maybe he'll use that first. does anyone elses pistol do this, or is mine just a weirdo?

I don't have one yet, but I am thinking about getting one. Good to know about their odd behavior. Hope someone can help you.

Re: does your pistol do this

yeah from what the responses were on my local forum it sounds common. i just need to put more rubble around for it apparently. i almost had a heart attack when i noticed the acans were gone.

Mine has not but I've got tons of rubble and small shell parts across my bottom. Good Luck!

Does the shrimp have a goby to protect him?
My only thought would be that he is trying to protect his "pad" by placing the corals in the area.

Re: does your pistol do this

yeah he does have a goby. the goby keeps a lookout for him while he steals my acans i caught them the other morning. well i dumped a bunch more rocks in there from my fuge and had a long talk with dr zoidberg(the pistol) and told him he'd have to go if this kept up and he seems to have stopped for a little bit. i'm going to get some more rubble or empty shells just to be sure but he has been good the past few days.

Re: does your pistol do this

That's good. If you have a refugium and he starts acting up again, you can just move him there. That's what I do when I have any animal that starts being naughty. Too bad I can't put the cat in the refugium when he's naughty which is quite often

Re: does your pistol do this

He's just doing what comes natural finding loose bits to build a defensive perimeter. I think getting him some rubble close by might help, but you never know he might like the look of the acans on his front porch.

Re: does your pistol do this

nice i finally saw him. it seems like everytime i think he is a goner there he is bigger than ever lol. the funny part about when he was taking the acans was he just wanted the plugs lol. he'd put the acans in head first so that the plug would be holding the rocks up. ha ha who would of thought that contruction workers lived underwater too.
