Shrimp ID

Hi all!

I'm new and thought I purchased a Peppermint, however the markings are different. I wish I could post a pic, however, son brought my camera on a cruise and well lets just say, too many pics of girlfriend and camera went overboard! LOL.

Anyway, I need your help in possibly identifiying my new friend. He must be just common shrimp. Looks pretty much like the ones at the seafood counter.

He has the coral/pink color with horizontal stripes along his tail. Gets along fine with my skunk cleaner and has a hint of iridescent green by his head.

I've searched on several search engines and am coming back to the experts!

Any ideas? I'll get a pic as soon as I get a new camera.......I think I'm financially sucked into the Reef World....

Re: Shrimp ID

Camel shrimp?
They are often confused for peppermints.

Re: Shrimp ID

Thanks for answering. There's no hump on the back. So I don't know what he/she is. I guess I'll have to get a pic out there. Thx

Re: Shrimp ID

Thanks Dentoid!!! Yes he does!

I've had him for two days now, and this morning when I went to check on him, I saw his exoskeleton. So maybe he looked a little different (?)

He looks a lot like you have pictured......so, now I'm curious....What is he?

Re: Shrimp ID

Well then, it's a Parhippolyte mistica common names, Peppermint shrimp or Candy Cane shrimp.

Re: Shrimp ID

That doesn't look like my peppermints. Do I have the wrong thing or are there different types?
Now I have to do a google image search.

Re: Shrimp ID

I see what you mean Lynn. I think the names are interchangeable. It's a Hawaiian Peppermint shrimp.

Re: Shrimp ID

Good. Now I feel better. I did the google search and found 3 or 4 things that were called peppermint shrimp.
I guess it doesn't really matter. I just wish mine would eat the aiptasia but they are too well fed.
