Tiger pistol and goby

Ive had a tiger pistol shrimp and goby share a mutualistic symbiotic relationship and enjoyed watching them. About a year ago when I tore down my tank to install flooring I discovered I had a hitchhiker red shrimp under a rock. He looked like the pistol shrimp except the color. Since I had not seen him for over a year and figured he was dead. then I noticed sand piles on the opposite side of the tank from the Pistol shrimp and goby. So I bought a goby called a )sic spel) Ieshakowa (?) a small orange and white goby to see if he would pair up with the hidden shrimp (that you never see). This goby is so small compared to my other fish when he disapeared I figured he was a $40dinner. Tonight I saw him with the Red shrimp! who hoo. My problem is I do not know what this Red shrimp is, and I spelled the name of the goby like the name sounds. Now I have two paired shrimps and gobys how cool is that. Does anyone tell me what the red shrimp is. I cant show you a picture becuase he really hides. I only know his wheareabouts becuase of the goby watching for him.

Re: Tiger pistol and goby

Congrats on the second pairing
Try to get a pic of the red shrimp if possible. What type of claws does it have? One small and one large would indicate a pistol shrimp.
Just curious, do they make a lot of clicking noises?

Re: Tiger pistol and goby

Ive not heard any clicking noises. I am amazed that they did indeed pair up too. I'll keep searcing for the correct name. I believe both shrimps have one larger claw, they use the claws like snow ploughs pushing the sand around.

Re: Tiger pistol and goby

The Yasha Goby usually pairs with the Alpheus randalli but it's very unusual to have these tiny shrimp as hitchhikers, do you know the origin of the Live Rock ?

Re: Tiger pistol and goby

The Pistol Shrimp that are usually hitchhikers are of the Caribbean variety and they don't normally form a symbiotic relationship with Gobies and could actually kill the fish, if you could post a photo of the shrimp so we can properly ID him would be good.

Re: Tiger pistol and goby

It looks closest to a banded coral shrimp but the forearms do not appear as long and I do not think it is hairy looking. This guy is extremely hard to get a look at. He appears to be close to the yashi goby. The pincher are small one is only very slightly wider than the other. He is red and whited banded.

The Tiger Pistol doesn't have red/white bands, my guess would be the Randalli which is rare to find in the hobby and you got him as a HH which is cool. Here's a photo Alpheus randalli
