Mass Aiptasia control

I know of all the standard aiptasia control methods but I have a bit of an unusual situation. I have them all through my overflow. Many I cannot reach to use Joes, lemmon or kalk. They are on the walls, the pipe, everything. I have a few in the display buy I know the overflow is the root of the problem and can easily remove those with standard methods.
If anybody has some ideas on how to remove these varments I would appreciate it. I have even tried putting peppermints into the overflow but they just disappear never to be seen again in the fuge or sump.
Thanks everybody.

Agree. Stop the flow through it. Remove it and soak it in vinegar. That'll get 'em.

Yeah, what Bob said... I was gonna say pull the whole thing and rinse in RO... never heard the rubbing alcohol though.

Re: Mass Aiptasia control

If it's a HOB overflow I say soak in vinager and remove the coraline while your at it.

If it is a built in tank overflow then taking the internal plumbing out (you didn't glue that did you?) to flush it, then scrubbing the walls, and scrubbing the plumbing would be your best bet.

Re: Mass Aiptasia control

Well Unfortunately I have no way of removing the overflow. It is part of the tank. Also the person who had it before us did in fact glue it in. We may (Emphasis on may) be able to get through the silicone but then we have to figure out how to re-connect it. One of the fun things about buying a used tank. Hmm Maybe we can take out the stand pipe and get to it that way. I am not sure if that is glued or not. I'll have to do some more investigating.

Re: Mass Aiptasia control

vinegar and rubbing alcohal are great for cleaning in this hobby, cause they're organic, and dont chance killin stuff like bleach and soap.

Re: Mass Aiptasia control

Scrub it and treat if you can (while the water's not running through it of course and after you've disconnected it) using lemon juice, vinegar, or something similar. Remember, Aiptasia also reproduce asexually using pedal-laceration, so cells that remain behind after a scrubbing could grow into new organisms if you don't treat them to kill them off.

Ohh - I feel for you!! I have 4 aiptasia in my tank (thought it was 3 found a 4th today) and I have tried everything to get rid of them - Joe's Juice, boiling water, boiling water with Joes Juice, Lemon Juice, boiling lemon juice, and now I'm using muriatic acid - they grow back!!!
