| Tunicate | bubble tip brittle star Was out of town in February and my friend fed my tank too much. I got every thing cleaned up and balanced. Around March my bubble tip brittle star kicked off 2 legs and his body got a gross spot on it and went from being about the size of a quarter to the size of a nickle. I thought he was a gonner. He seems to be recovering now and is eating well. His body looks great although still small. My question is about the 2 legs that it kicked off... they still move around the tank. The legs broke off right at the disc. They respond to light, food and touch. I have read somewhere that it is possible for the disc to regenerate. One of the legs it broke off is a leg that got partially broken off after getting caught in a filter back in January, it look like it is still growing. Any help or info on this? Will try to get pics when I get a camera. |

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: bubble tip brittle star Wow! Sounds like a science fiction movie. ![]() Sorry, I don't know much about starfish but yours sounds very interesting. How long have the legs been 'alive'? I'm glad to hear the star is doing better.

| Tunicate | Re: bubble tip brittle star The legs have been "alive" now for almost a month. They collect the food like normal but I have no clue how/if they get nourishment!!! It is really freaky. My hubby is grossed out by them. I am trying to borrow a camera and should be able to get pics of the legs by tomorrow. I found a pic of one on the web but can not figure out how to put it in this message. Here is the link for the picture: Bubble Tip Brittle Starfish - Ophiocoma spp. |
