Serpent star activity

I just received the 75-100g CUC package today from reefscavengers.com, and for the most part I was pretty pleased....except for the surprise crab in the nerite shell that had done some damage.

I got a serpent with the package, and since introduction into my tank about mid-afternoon, it has just been hanging out in a corner, pretty motionless. It will move a little if stimulated, but hasn't done much other than that. Even had a few ceriths crawling on him for a while. I was under the impression that these guys liked the dark and usually stayed under rocks during lights on. Normal reaction to introduction or something to possibly be worried about?

Re: Serpent star activity

Sounds normal for a brand new serpent star.
Mine stays behind the rock work much of the time but he will come out when the lights are on if there is food. Sometimes he seems to be in a coma sleep and not even food will bring him out of it.

Re: Serpent star activity

My first thought was how did you acclimate? They are fairly sensitive.

Re: Serpent star activity

Sorry forgot to include that. I dripped him for about 2 1/2 hours. Also forgot to include that the pH in the shipping water was 7.1 and sg was 1.025. My tank is 8.1 and 1.025.

Anyway, I just gave him a piece of a silverside and he definitely came to life and gobbled it up, so I'm a little relaxed.

BTW, excellent experience w/ reefscavengers.com. GREAT customer service as others have posted. The only complaint (besides the unexpected crab in the snail shell) is that the bags they ship in are fairly small and tightly knotted, so I had to cut the knot off and didn't have much more room in the bag to slow add water from my system.

Re: Serpent star activity

He's most likely fine. For future reference, when the PH difference is that wide I would drip for slower, longer (maybe 4+ hours). Eating with gusto is a definate good sign!
