Feeding Question

Ok So i Finally got so inverts in my tank. i have a couple questions regarding them.. ive done quite a bit of research on them but the info i find seems more scientific rather than everyday pratical info.

1. ive got a fire/blood shrimp, how the heck do you feed him? I picked up some freeze dried mysis and turkey baisted it in front of him. he came out it all floated up. he seems a bit to shy to come out and get his own food. mind you this is at night hours. So i decided to feed him by hand which is the COOLEST thing ever, but its not very practical... those mysis are REALLY small. do you guess mix it up and cube or what? and howso do you do this?

2. Ive got a seahare. hes AWESOME. He eats a lot so i picked up some nori and some dried seaweed. because they eat so much and so fast should i be feeding it daily when all the alge is gone?

THANKS

Oh!!! theres pics in my Chronicle.

Re: Feeding Question

Ok here's my 2 cents (ka ching ka ching).

Be careful feeding inverts only. They are mostly scavengers and eat detritus and waste. I feed mine very sparringly if at all. Espeically the shrimp.

The Sea Hare is another story. When my tank(s) are clean of Hair algae and other Macro Algae I often "Pimp mine out" to local reefers. When everyone is clean I will use a Nori strip on a clip (Not sure WHO really eats it) to supplement it's food along with some other macro algae from my fuges.

Re: Feeding Question

Ditto to Allen... but if you're like me, you'll get your jollys from feeding the shrimp so just feed them only a few small pieces of food to prevent fouling your reef.

:lol; jollys! Haven't EVER seen that in print and haven't heard that in a while

What I do for my wife's tank (6g NanoCube with NO fish) is just scoop out a couple of the mysis shrimp I am feeding my 90g tank and drop them into the 6g every other day or so. It's so cool to watch

Re: Feeding Question

I don't feed with my over-flow pumps running. I keep the tank flowing with power heads but over flows are OFF for 20 minutes.

Re: Feeding Question

Well I occasionally (maybe a few times a week) target feed my emerald crab and coral banded shrimp with a small chunk of shrimp each. I use a wooden shish-cabob skewer to do this primarily because it is fun. I only give them basically what they can put in their mouth. The emerald crab eats tank junk 24/7 so it hasn't affected his appetite. I don't know what the CBS eats, but he usually comes running for the shrimp.

There is not much leftover food in my tank. I place a small bit of mysis on a tablespoon, add some tank water and wait for it to sink in the spoon then I release it bit-by-bit into the tank near the power head and watch as the fish eat it up before it hits the bottom. The hermit crabs still seem to find enough junk to eat on the bottom though and the snails are doing fine with the algae.

Re: Feeding Question

I seem to have plenty of algae to support my seahares but I will occasionally put nori in for the rabbitfish and they get some too. I do feed my cleaner shrimp only to keep them occupied while I feed everybody else. It's just a small morsal but it seems to do the trick.
