| Serpent Star | Trapping Crabs? I read many things about crabs now, from good to evil... I just saw a few in my new tank which I didn't put in, so they must have hitched a ride in with the rocks. I usually only see a pincher here, or a few legs there... never the whole thing. I can't ID it... or maybe even them... So I want to remove them without taking the tank apart and have read references to trapping them. So that's my question... what's the best way to trap them??? I've seen crab traps on fishing boats, but those are huge! Do they make little versions of them? ahahahahha.... ![]() |

| Over Achiever | Re: Trapping Crabs? You can use a bottle or glass. Prop it up on the rock close to the hidey hole so that it is at an incline. Put some bait in the bottom of the trap, a piece of shrimp. When the crab enters the glass container it can not get a footing on the slick glass to climb out. Nabbed! Many crabs are nocturnal, so it's best to do at night. Also it's difficult to keep other critters off the bait especially fish. If you have hermits they will also end up in the container. Hopefully, one of the times you will catch a crab. All the best! ![]() Stop slakking and get that crab! ![]() |

| Beautiful Katamari | Re: Trapping Crabs? Here is a crab trap I made from a plastic water bottle. You just cut the top cone shape off and place it inverted into the body of the bottle. Bait with a little food. It works. If you look close there is a gorilla crab in that trap. [IMG] [/IMG]

| Serpent Star | Re: Trapping Crabs? That's a cool DIY bottle trap... I'm out of town but my wife called to tell me she's seen a couple of little hermit crab claws floating on the bottom... not cool, looks like the pest is making a meal of my CUC! It's "go time" when I get home!!! |
