| Sea Pen | scarlet hermits Does anyone know if red legged scarlet hermits are more hardy than other crabs? I bought a couple of them a couple of months ago and now they can't be found. I have a lot of rock though so who knows where they could be. I used to see them all the time, but now never. I have other crabs that are doing fine. (blue legged and others) Why have my red legged died (i'm assuming) They feed off the same stuff as the others I'm sure...animal matter/algae. THANKS |

| Beautiful Katamari ![]() | Re: scarlet hermits My red legs ofter disappear for much longer periods of time than the blue legs. I think the red legs take longer to molt or at least they stay in hiding longer to molt. That being said they are also more accessible to being attacked by other inhabitants and crabs while the are "soft shelled" isn't nature grand!?!

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: scarlet hermits We have a couple of red legged hermits and they mainly stay hidden in the rock holes and tunnels. Once in a while, we will see one appear briefly.

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: scarlet hermits Do you have red legs or scarlets? The scarlets have the yellow eye stalks and are usually sold a bit larger. The scarlets are the most reef safe of the hermits and the only ones allowed in my tank.

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: scarlet hermits I rarely see my scarlets so I would say it is normal. They are likely just hiding.
