Hello from a want a be aquarist

Seems like this is the site to belong to if you want to learn about saltwater aquariums Just wanted to say Hello, and that I've just started my miniature ocean a week ago and the salinity, pH, nitrite and nitrate seems to be OK. I started with 40lbs of live rock and 50lbs of live sand along with Red Sea salt for the water mixture. One question... on the rock I have noticed a bunch of little shrimp looking creatures the day after mixing the water adding sand and rock. I have been looking all over the net for a pic of them so that I would know what they were (which is how I stumbled on this site) any ideas?

Well I won't bore you any longer,
Thanks for any help in advance,
Steve

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Welcome! If you've got a tank with water in it, sounds like you're an aquarist to me.

Re: Hello from a want a be aquarist

I'll post some pics when I get back from Homestead,
I'm starting to wonder about my tank though, it is gradually getting a little worse since I posted the question of a this brown stuff coming of my live rock in the beginners section and Witfull let me now that it was more than likely a diatom bloom which was normal for a new tank. The bloom has just about covered all the sand. But a picture is worth a thousand words, so I'll try to post one tonight when I get home, if not it will be the 21st or 22nd.
Thanks for the interest.
Steve
