i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Re: Hello All

OK just a couple more...First, a pair of showoffs...

And a pretty cool Acro that has literally grown from nothing! A spot on the rock that has grown to be very colorful.

Re: Hello All

Good to see another Eastern NC person on here.
Wondering if I have possibly met you before at Brian's when he had a get together one time. I've come up a few times to Greenville from Wilmington.
Too long of a drive for me to do very often though

Re: Hello All

Thanks for all the replies guys...cheeks, I've tried to get a couple full tank shots of the 180g but they have been coming out blurry...I need to get my tripod set up and try it that way...I did get a couple good ones from down the sides...I'll try to post those.

mps, I don't think we've met...I've only been hanging out at Brians for the past couple months...and I've only been back in G'ville for about a year. Up in Chapel Hill for three years prior to that.

Livingreef, yep, the frag tank is plywood (you can thank Brian for talking me into that one LOL) and I'm really happy that I decided to go this route. I don't anticipate having any problems with it. The two-part epoxy paint cured up really hard...feels like a plastic coating (I guess that's what it is hmmm )

Re: Hello All

Please try to look past the patches of algae LOL...the tank is really immature and I'm going through the normal growing pains...it has improved a little over the past week thanks to my new foxface...you can see him peeking out in the above pic.
The corals are growing nicely and have some great colors so far. The starboard is starting to cover in coraline and hopefully the hair algae will subside eventually. I think it'll be really nice in about six months or so.

Re: Hello All

Just an update:
I haven't added anything to the 180g "main" tank, but I've made a little progress on the 260g prop tank.
I've already got the 2 x 400w halides to light the tank; fired them up for the first time yesterday. My new Tunze streams and multicontroller should be here in about a week. I've got the cinderblocks in place that will be my stand "legs" for the prop tank, and I also built a platform out of doubled 2x4s and another sheet of 3/4 ply. This will serve as a base for the prop tank to sit on. I also drilled for the drain and return and installed the overlow chamber.
