Re: new member tank building

resting the side glass on the bottoms will help with weight distribution, only in larger tanks. if the tank is acrylic, then you can do otherwise, but for myself i would rest the sides on top of the bottom. in a 7 ft tank, glass would be extremely heavy and hard to deal with, on the other hand, if you could find some 1" or 1.5" acrylic panes, IMO that would work better with what you are trying to accomplish. 19mm seems just right for glass, however are you going to use low iron glass, is it going to be tempered, and will it be drilled? best of luck!!!

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Re: new member tank building

tanks for the help,,;-) what is low iron glass?? the glass i,m using is untempered and it will be drilled . Acrylic is like gold dust in ireland and usually from 2mm to 8mm thick even 19 mm glass is costing me 130 euro ($159)per square metre not including polishing " nasty " do you know of any books on aquarium design and building

Re: new member tank building

low iron glass is just like it sounds it contains low amount of iron which makes it crystal clear like acrylic regular glass has a green tint due to the higher iron content

good luck with your project and welcome to RS!!!!
