Smile Howdy!

Hey all, another new guy here! I was in to freshwater planted tanks for a number of years, but had to get out for awhile because of work and other commitments. Decided its time to get back in and this time I want to try my hand at saltwater.

Presently setting up a 20gal FOWLR. Just water, dusting of sand w/ starboard, a little LR and a small cleanup crew for now. Will be adding a Coralife Super Skimmer this next week and plan on picking up the rest of my LR in 2 - 3 weeks. Tank has been through one cycle and will probably go through another when I add the rest of the LR. Just taking my time, learning as I go. Looking at adding a 10gal sump at some point. Livestock will end up being a couple of clowns and maybe one other small fish, and will probably add a few corals when I feel that I, and the tank, are ready.

Using this tank as a learning tool, keeping mistakes to a minimum thanks to great sites like this one, in preparation of a much larger reef tank down the road sometime.

Anyway, This looks to be a great site and I'm looking forward to interacting with you all and hopefully making some positive contributions as well as learning as much as I can.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Re: Howdy!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! Ready for my first question

Ok, here goes....how much flow should I have in a 20gal standard with 25lbs of LR and basically BB? I have two mini-jet 404's in there right now, so that's what...216 GPH (theoretically anyway) plus an AC110. I'm going to replace the AC110 with a Coralife Super Skimmer 65, so I'll lose some flow there. Will the 404"s be enough, or do I need to replace them with something larger?
